I went to get an alignment after my Tein coilovers were installed today

I went to the best shop around..and found out my left rear wheel was out of toe bad

.77

anyway, this is not from lowering the car. They are doing a rear wheel shim to correct it, because I will have bad and fast tire wear on the left reae wheel.

I was told this is a factory defect of the rear suspension...


anyone else have problems with the rear wheel toe. this is unsuall I was told..

 

it is a factory defect but not by .77 . and yes lowering the car does have an effect on the rear toe. juts not by alot.

 

Funny the right wheel if perfect or within specs. and the left is out a lot.

Should i just leave it or get it corrected...

I was the the if each wheel is off by the oposite number, it's an axle shift problem

 

just fix it to give a lil better tire wear. it doesnt hurt.

they are using these 2-piece shims made just for this type of problem..

oh, i paid today for 125.00 for new front camber bolts and the 4 wheel aligment, not including the rear wheel shim they are doing monday..

 

front camber? your front camber should still be very close to perfect

thats a good price for install of the bolts and such. hopefully they didnt charge u much for the bolts as they only cost 2.99 each

 

Yeah, this place is expensive, but they do local race cars and tricky alignments no one else will do.

No one likes to do cars that are drop'd like mine more that 2".

 

If I recall all the stuff read to me when I bought my xB, stuff like that could be covered under warrenty

 

Funny you just posted this. The dealer called and said they would pay to have it shimm aligned.

Should I push for a complete new suspension...or just do the above

 

Just get it shimmed. You're likely to be more screwed up if you have the garage monkeys try to tackle something like that plus warranty would never cover a replacement. that's just part of mass-production and why they have warranties anyway.

they wont warranty you since you have coilovers. or they very seldomly will.

 

If they can't or don't do alignments themselves, they may be willing to just reimburse him for the place he's getting it done at. I'd mail in the bill or use someone else's car to drop it off...

 

Funny cuz my rear right wheel was out of spec when I aligned my car. I left it alone cuz I was told by someone that the toe in the rear actually adjust as you drive. I haven't noticed any uneven tire wear in the rear, (and I canyon race this car like 2 maybe 3 times a week, so I wear tires out fast) the front, now thats a different story.

 

Do you know what the specs were for both rear wheels

Was it toe or camber out

 

I dont remember sorry, I used the alignment rack at my school so when I go to class on Monday I'll try to get the specs copied.

i heard that the toe was self adjusting too. But if it were out by double, would you have it brought back to specs. .77 SB .30
