Default 16x7s Tire Recommendations and Questions...

Ok so I'm looking at 16x7 +40 rims. The questions are. What are the advantages and disadvantages of running a wider tire on that rim. I'm looking at 215/40-16 and 205/45-16. I've heard fatter rubber will get more grip in the dry but the 205 will do better in the wet (easier to excavate the water) is this true? Also...I'm looking for some grippy tires that won't break the bank. I'm looking at:

Nitto Nt 450
Kumho Supra 712
Hankook HRII
Falken GR Beta FK-451

You get the idea...somewhere along those line. Suggestions? Comments? Advice?

Of the two you mentioned I would go with the 205/45/16. Those tires would be closest to the stock tire diameter. You could even move up to a 215/45/16.

My personal preference would be to go with the widest contact patch possible without making the tires "bulge" on the wheels.

I have Kumhos right not on my Prelude, and they are ok. I would definitely get a better tire if I could afford it. I have heard that the Nitto 450 isn't a very good tire. But the 555 is awesome. That is the only tire I will run on my Dakota. And hopefully what we will be running on my wife's 18s for the box.

The 555s are available in the 205/45/16 size. You'll spend a little bit more, but I think you would be way happier with those tires.

Yea I didn't really like the 450s...and was thinking of the 555s...are there any other suggestions out there as for tires brands and models?

On my 16x7 +40's I am running 205/50/16. Slightly larger than the tires that come with the box but a little closer to what the speedo actually is.

Just a few mph. Tomas actually posted some good information on this. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...182834#1182834

The size I chose is right in the middle of the US and Japanese tire sizes.

tire manufacturers don't seem to make many 16" tires that have the right height for us :/ You can easily find 215/40r16 and 205/45r16, but they're a bit short, the perfect fit would be 215/46r16, except they're really hard to find.

Next spring after winter when I will finally make a decision on rims, I may get 16 or 17" rims. If I get 16s, I'll be wanting to put the 215/45 on. Apparently Falken will be producing 215/45r16 versions of their Azenis RT-615 by spring, but they're not available at the moment.

I haven't yet found any other decent high performance tires available in this size.
