Default Progess Rear Sway Installed w/ pics

I did some searching on this sway and couldn't find too many pics. I got mine today and installed it. Took me about 45 minutes doing it solo. Pretty painless install. Took it for a spin and really liked the difference it made. The xb really bites around the corners..

Shot of the sway..

1. I jacked up the xB and placed it on jackstands.

2. I removed the rear wheels for better clearance.

3. I inserted the "flag" nut inside the channel of the rear beam.

4. I then used a screwdriver to get the "flag" nut to the right spot.

5. Once I got it in the right area, I used the screwdriver to center the "flag" nut to the hole in the channel.

6. I then raised the swaybar up and threaded the bolt on the "flag" nut. (instructions say to start on the rear, but I figured it would be easier to do this one first)

7. I put on the rear nut/bolts/washers. (the lower washer for the rear bolt would not fit. also, I could not get a socket around the bolt to torque. I had to use boxend/open end wrenches)

A couple other shots of the sway bar

Hopefully this will help someone else who plans on adding this. The instructions were kind of vague.

good stuff, I have the same RSB. I had a fun time with the nuts attached to the metal strips. . . it was kinda funny actually I fiddled around them so much one of the mechanic came over and made me stand in the corner while he finished the job. . . HA HA HA. Ever since then none of the mechanics will let me work on my car, they just say I'll do it. I guess it helps to be a numb skull sometimes. . .ha ha ha.

If the DIY isn't in the DIY section, I think this post should be moved there. Nice one, Digidizzle.

Wait a minute....Aren't you supposed to use the flag nut the other way around. I thought the flag portion of the nut was such that you can hold the nut in place (with your fingers) while you thread the bolt through the flag nut. You show it installed the other way around and as such you need a screwdriver. Correct me if I'm wrong.......

In the directions it's supposed to tbe the other way around, but if you try to actually do it that way it's a tight fit. If I remember correctly they use locking nuts, a nut with a thin piece of nylon round the last few threads so that they don't vibrate loose. Because of this locking nut it doesn't matter how you do it just as long as it's tight. I know I had to put one side in the other way cause the nut didn't want to tighten correctly. I haven't had a problem with mine and I've had it on for roughly 4-6 months. My car is on the lift at my shop almost every week cause I'm paranoid about noises and oil changes.

But it is always good to follow directions as closely aas possible.

Before installing, I was checking out the flag nuts. The tabs looked as if they would have got in the way of the rear bolts. In the intructions I got, I was near impossible to tell which way they were suppose to go in. It wasn't too difficult at all to line up the bolts the way I did it. I guess I figured that tab from the flag bolt would have just been in the way.

That's the way I installed my Progress RSB.

Thats how i did it as well. But i guess as long as you have all 4 nuts in you should be ready to go.

There is a walkthrough in the Tech Section here:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=59159

You should post these pics there. You've got some better angles than me.

I did the flange nuts the other way, but either way should work as long as you get it tight.

i also installed it the other way...there's a hole that can be seen from above the sub-frame which will aid in aiming the screw into the nut...see my review of the sway bar in the 'reviews' / 'swaybars' section that I did about 8 months ago...

Dang, looks like all I did was cause some confusion.

I thought I was doing it correctly. I know it's attached like it should be, just in a different fashion. I'll make sure to check out the tech area before doing a post like this in the future.

As long as the bolts are tight, its all good. Some of us just have the flag in the other direction, that's all. THANKS for taking the time to post pics. I installed mine and didn't even bother to take pics over 15 months ago.

You're right, the flags do get in the way of the rear nuts, but you just push the flag out of the way. Like many have noted, after it's all buttoned up, it really doesn't matter. The only thing is that you may have taken a minute or two off your install time the other way around.

Here's a link to a thread I did on my install of this same sway bar:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...115&highlight=

As others have said, I installed the "flag" nut with the "handle" towards the rear of the channel. So what I wound up with is the flag nut on the inside of the channel, and the bolt head of the other mounting point inside the channel. The "handle" of the flag nut sits on top of the bolt head, but it's pretty pliable so I was still able to get them all tight and snug.
