rough ride on 18s?
i was told by the dealer that if i were to get 18s that the ride would be really roungh, is this true? and if so how big can i go w/o getting a rough ride?
I guess it depends on your definition of rough. I don't think it's that bad and I've got 215/35/18 tires. It is noticably "cushier" with the stock tires, though. However, I'm not a big stickler for good ride quality.
LOL.. U nailed i right on the head.. I just ordered my 18's and I cant wait to put them on...I need that exact same tire size but some1 told me if i went with 215 40 18 it would be smoother than with a 215 35 18... I hope its true cause thats what I'll probably get...
generally speaking, yes, the ride quality will be comprimised vs. a stock wheel/tire combo. this is due to the tire's sidewall. a shorter sidewall will be stiffer and less able to absorb the bumps and dips in the road. the larger wheel you go will also transmit more vibration as well (19's for example). this is a trade off you pay for the most part.
Ok, the rep from Toyo Tires (in another thread) e-mailed me back that 40 l'bs on my p4s are 'TOO MUCH'--kept replying back that it 'should be AT LEAST 33 lbs'. Then in another e-mail, says keep it at 33 lbs.
Is this ok for my +1 rims?

I am running a 215/35/18 Falken Ziex 502 and are roads are S H I T T Y------ OKLAHOMA.. So I drive around like I am in a parade slowing down for every pot hole dip hump or bridge gap I see!! Just the price you pay for looking so DANG GOOD!!! I would never roll on stock, stock sucks!!!
If you want 18's you're gonna have to go for a 35 sidewall to avoid rubbing...it's not a very smooth ride at all, and if you hit a big enough hole in the road your rims can get messed up. You're basically putting less rubber between your rims and the road, which is always going to be a rougher ride.
i've got 40's on mine and the ride is rough, but nothing ya can't live with, nothing like an "old school" bounce from lowering or anything that bad, even after putting a 2" drop on my box the ride didn't change much. it's up to you and what you can live with 18's do look sweet on a box!
I'm running 215/35/18's on mine and it is rougher than the stock tires. To help smooth it out I installed Monroe SensaTrac shocks and Tein H-Tech springs. Now it rides better and looks better too! Also I run @ 35psi.
Well I first had 17s with a 205/40 tire, now I have 18s with a 215/35 tire and the ride is pretty much the same.......Sure u can feel the sharp bumps (bridge gap) more but the look is well worth it.....
I have tanabe df 210s and it still is a plesent ride.........I would say dont worry about it, just watch where u drive.......
