I have found a set of 18x7.5 wheels with an offset of 42, my question is how do you figure offset? I have 18's on the car now but want to get rid of the chrome and go black, can someone help me out.

Offset is the measurement from the centerline of the wheel to the hub mating surface. Offset goes up, the closer the wheel will be to the center of the car. Offset goes down, wheels stick out.

 

Ok great, so would you say that an offset of 42 would be more in than closer to the edge of the fender? Thanks for the lesson is appreciated. I will probably just have my wheel shop tell me what the offset is on the 18's I have now and go from there.

Yes with more offset your wheels will sit further into the fender.
