Default Will These Racing Tires Rub???

Yokohama A048 225/50-15. It's wide: Section Width= 9.3" Tread Width= 9.1"

Will these tires rub on an xA?

How much could it be lowered?

I'm willing to get wheels with the necessary offsets, if it's possible.

Any information is appreciated.

What brand of tires did you get in this size?

What wheel offsets are you using?

The problem is that the tread width on the Yoko A048s is over 1" wider than most other 225/50-15 tires.

The only tires I've found that are comparable to the A048s are the Ecsta V710.

I've been seeing some really nice Scion mods lately, and I'm feeling motivated to do more with my xA.

I should do whatever mods are necessary to make these tires fit.

On Tirerack.com, they have a section that lists recommended wheel widths for each tire. Make sure you check that out and get a wheel that is within that range--preferrably in the middle of that range or else mounting will be very difficult.

I don't know of anybody on this forum who has tried that tire size. I'm sure the rear wheels will need at least OTG shims to clear the strut. The fronts, of course, are a different story. If you didn't order the tires yet, I would recommend going to a tire shop that deals with SCCA road racers, and try to buy a pair of used tires just for fitment purposes (they may even help you determine the wheel specs). I would get a wheel that put the tire about 1/2" away from the strut. Any closer and it will rub in hard cornering. Then worry about the outside hitting the inner fender. You may have to roll the fenders.

Of course, lowering springs will make everything more difficult. The rears should still be fine, but the fronts will rub more. Decide on the ride height before fitting any tires. You may even be able to fit some worn race tires on the stock rims just to see if they rub.

Years ago I autocrossed a Neon, and most had 225s on the stock 6" wide wheels, so they can fit, but remember that the section width on a tire will increase a bit when mounted on wider wheels.

Good luck, and post any success you have.
