Default New to Scion Life Question about Air Ride

Ok, I've searched the forums and have seen everything that everyone has said about Air Suspension. I've been parting pieces together for a setup. Let me tell you what I've got and let me know what you guys think about this setup. I am going to be running a 5 gallon 8 port tank, 8 300psi 3/8 valves, a viar 400 compressor, 2 200 psi dual needle gauges(KP), and 1 200 psi single needle gauge, 145-175 pressure switch, with Easy Streets front and rear bags. Obviously air lines and wiring too. Also, a 10 swichboard. Now, my question is, would any of you guys change anything about this setup? Any comment is appreciated. I could always exchange some of the stuff. I don't have everything yet, but I will be ready for shows for next season! Thanks for any help or comments!

def change out and get either the 450 or 480 compressor
both are sealed units(for mounting outside) and the 480 is hella quiet if your putting the setup inside
im stepping up to the 480 once my 450 goes out
other than that i say your g2g

I'll post pics soon. I work in a body shop so the first thing I'm doing before my install is painting my XB. Right now it's the stock black color but I'm going with a custom 2 tone paint job. Right now I'm in the process of making a new fiberglass piece to house the guages right above the glove box in that big opening. I'll be mounting all 3 gauges in there and my stinger volt meter for my stereo system. Then the airbag suspension will be going in. After that I'm going to be doing a custom fiberglass sub enclosure and amp rack. I've been painting some interior pieces at work too. So, I'm hoping to have my XB bagged, and fully painted by next years show season. Hopefully I'll take the Jersey area by storm with all the mods I'm planning. Should look good when I'm done. It helps to work in a body shop and know how to do everything myself and not have to pay thousands of dollars for body and paint mods!! Thanks for the suggestion on the compressor! I'll take it highly into consideration!

I have to throw my suggestion on the compressor change to a ViAir 450 as well. Also, take a good long hard look at the Easy Street rear setup. I've read a LOT of reviews here on SL where there were major problems. I am currently running the Easy Street fronts but I am running Slam Specialties RE-5 rear bags with the FBI rear bag brackets. Just something to consider is all.

As anyone who has been on this site for any amount of time knows... I have to throw my 2 cents into any air suspension thread.

First about the compressor. There is NOTHING WRONG with the Viair 400! What you have to consider is how you are going to be using your system. The 400 fills quite a bit faster than the 450, but requires more down time in between fills. Let's take a look at Viair's own specs.
Fill time on a 5 gallon tank from 110 to 145
Viair 400: 1 min. 40 sec.
Viair 450: 2 min. 11 sec.

That probably doesn't sound like much, but you spend 1/3 more time to fill a tank with a Viair 450 than you do with a 400! So why does everyone buy a 450 over a 400? Simple misunderstanding of the specifications. In some cases the 450 is the better choice. Especially for those using a lot of air playing and requiring a lot of work out of their compressor. The 450 is ready to fill again in 1/3 the time of the 400. But is that something you will need?

If you are the kind of guy who is just going to air your car up when you drive and drop it when you park without a lot of "playing" the 400 is your better bet. If you want to play more go for the 450. Just beware that you will fill your tanks quite a bit slower than you would with a 400.

There is also very little need to move up into something like the 480. The *80 compressors from Viair are used to build higher pressure for heavier trucks and people wanting a bit more speed (possible hopping) from a standard compressor system. Neither is necessary for our super light xB. If you want the newer "quieter" compressor design, go for either the 420 or the 460. They are the new design equivalent to the 400 and 450.

Also, what Storm13 stated about the OLD Easystreet kit is true. However that is the old kit using sleeve bags. The new Easystreet kit uses a very similar setup to the FBI brackets. Except it places the bags "right side up" and includes the Airlift double convoluted bags as a part of the package. I haven't heard of any complaints about the redesigned system yet.

Hope that helps, and good luck in your build.

Thanks guys. My plans were to most likely mount the compressor inside. I figured the 400 would be just fine. I don't plan on doing a lot of playing around with it, just basically lift it when I'm getting ready to drive and slam it when parked! I believe the 450 and 80 are sealed. I really don't need a sealed compressor if I'm using it inside. Thanks for all the help.

One more thing to consider is whether or not you really want to mount the compressor inside. I originally had mine mounted inside and it's very loud - especially if anyone is riding in the back and even for the driver and front passengers. I am currently relocating mine to underneath. Luckily I bought the ViAir 450, so I'm covered no matter which way I mount it.
Just something to consider is all.
