I have an xA, are struts necessary if I get Tanabe springs to lower my car by 2 inches?

 

New struts are not needed. I have those springs on my xB and I never changed my struts or shocks.

 

They aren't necessary. I don't know anyone on this forum who has upgraded their struts to accomodate their lowering springs..

 

Just word to the wise, Your factory struts are designed to last aprox. 18,000-20,000 miles. Usually loss is at such a progressive rate most never really notice the change. If you have lowered the stance of your vehicle an I" to an 1 1/4" id say you would be fine with the original struts till that point of wear shows. However after setting up over 300 Suspension setups in the last couple of years i will tell you a 2" suspension drop will require a stiffer strut. I'm not aware of any adj. struts at this point but i'm sure either Koni or KYB agx will soon foolow. I'm sure Tanabe has a coilover strut assembly much like TEIN does. that would include a strut with an adjustable perch as well.

 

I just got Tokico adjustables for the xB JUST came out. Am adding them to the store now...

We always advise upgrading your struts when lowering a vehicle unless the vehicle is fairly new and came equipped with a sport suspension from the factory. Unfortunately, neither Koni nor KYB (the two lines we represent) offer performance struts for your vehicle at this time.

The heck you say! Finally, I've been waiting for a company to create aftermarket shocks for long ___ time!

 

Forward Motion Motorsport - whether stock struts will last with aftermarket lowering springs has nothing to do with how low you go, its a factor of spring rates.

The Tanabe DF springs have spring rates of 154 / 165
The Tanabe NF springs have spring rates of 115.5 / 137.5

If the spring rates of your aftermarket springs are significantly higher than stock, you're going to blow the stock struts pretty quick. There are springs available that will hardly lower your car, but stiffen up suspension, & blow stock struts in the first month...there's more to look at than just ride height.

 

I agree, i was just using the fact of lowering the vehicle as association. but you stated it quite well. thanks for cleaning it up.

 

I'm going to get Tanabe DF210s soon. I'll use stock shocks and if they start to go to hell I will probably get some TRD ones then.

 

Anyone know what the stock spring rates are? and how do they compare to the Tanabe DF210 spring rates?
