Default Great/Cheap 205/40 17 Tires?

what are some of yor favorite recommendations for someone who drives in all seasons and drives about 2000 miles a month.

(and will be driving 3000 to LA in the fall)

I've been looking at Kumho ECSTA 711s and they seem good, and priced great, but I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

p.s. these tires will go with these rims: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I just replaced a set of Ecsta 711s. I really liked them. They had good grip in wet and dry. I had an alignment problem that ruined them at 30,000 miles. From the tread left I'd say they might have made it to 40K. I do mostly highway/interstate miles with only occasional spirited cornering that would effect the wear.

I replaced them with Wynstar Exocets because I was in a crunch. The whole set of 4 was only $263 and that includes balancing and mounting. You gotta love country tire places. I've had them for about 2 weeks now and I'm pretty impressed overall especially for the price.

Is 40K good? Depends on the tires. There's a trade off between tread life and traction that's unavoidable- 70K rated tires don't really stick very well at all, in general, because they're too hard... And 40K on performance type tires is really pretty good...

There's also a trade off with speed rating- V and H rated tires often have less tread depth to begin with, to control heat buildup, so they'll wear out sooner...

he ECSTA ASX (ASX for All-Season Xtreme) is a member of Kumho's race-proven ECSTA high performance tire family. It is an Ultra High Performance All-Season tire that was developed to meet the needs of the drivers of sports cars, coupes and sedans by blending responsive handling with dry, wet and year-round traction, even in light snow.
