Default Rotor Removal

I am trying to replace all 4 studs on my front left wheel. I have an05 scion xB. I have taken off the caliper but cannot get the rotor to come off. I have hit it like crazy with a rubber mallet and that did nothing. I heard something about putting a bolt into some holes to make the rotor come off but I don't understand.

Pleeeease help me out here. Thanks

dude, i had this problem on my tC.

BIG mallet (we used a plstic 5lb mallet with the little rubber beans in it to help give more viabrations).

hit the rotor HARD. your not going to hurt a piece of iron. SMACK IT.

after a good couple of hits, it'll pop right off.

if you want to take off youre rotors, if theres a hole on youre hub which is the backing plate that holds youre rotor in place put a screw that fits well in it but make sure not to force the screw cause you might cross thread and that s whole new problem. but the whole is there for the sole purpose of holding youre rotor when youre hitting the crap out of it. the rotors get stuck due to rust, sooo....hit away and dont have the screw in all the way....

Where is a good place to hit it though? I have tried hitting it all over the front, and the back. It spins and everything, it will just not come off, I guess I'll go out and buy a bigger mallet. But just to make sure, all I should have to do to take off the rotor is remove the caliper right?

yes young grasshopper please do remove the caliper first before you damage it, please dont leave it hanging cause you can rip the brake lines tie it to something anywhere as long as the caliper isnt hanging, and just hit the **** out of it just dont hit youre fender... or anything else

Hey thanks you guys, I got the rotor off finally! Now my problem is that I want to replace the studs, but I don't know how to get that piece off that they are locked into to replace them...any idea?

are you putting longer ones in or are yours damaged? usually they have to be pounded out and its not an easy job.

its really not all that hard.

alright, now your going to have to imagine a little bit here. the picture above is a friend knocking the rear studs out of a tC hub.

it works just he same with a box.

look at the brake dust shield, there should be a little hole where you can knock the studs though.

you can see what im talking about in this picture. notice that towards the front of the car, there's a hole. rotate the hub until the studs are in front of that hole.

then just smack them with a hammer.

hard.

multiple times.

they WILL come out with some force.
