fitting new rims
okay. I'm new to modifying cars and all that and I've searched for this answer, but I just didn't get what i want to hear. I have a stock suspession on a xA. I'm going to get Eibach sportlines and koni yellows and then I want to get rims. The rims I want are either Rota Track R's or GT3's in 16x7 +40mm. The only thing I'm confused about is the offset. Will I be able to mount the rims the way they are and would they look flush with the finders? Will I need to get spacers? If so, can you remommend me some so I know what I need before I get into it. thanks guys.
the more flush you want it, the more work you're going to have to do, rolling/pulling fenders and adding more camber
You can try the otg stacked spacers in the rear...20mm and it's easier than putting a wheel spacer on and adding longer wheel studs, though you'll end up having to do that in the front anyways.

I think i want 205/45/16 or 205/40/16. I'm not sure which is better dealing with the odometer and all. I want a little more meat on the tires but at the same time I don't want as much as stock. I'm also not sure which tires I want either so I kind of need help choosing that. I live in SoCal so I dont need to worry about snow or anything. It's mostly sunny weather and we get a bit of rain so I want tires that are affordable, grip really well in dry and pretty well in rain.
edit: as far as going flush goes. I'd like it flush enough so it's not obvious that i'm not filling in the wheel gap. I don't want to have to roll fenders or anything. I basically want to go with lightly modded. I just want it to look decent.

10mm up front, 15mm in the rear. you won't be disappointed. as for tire size, i say 205/45. more tire is better on the xa, especially if you're going to run a smaller wheel. i have 215/45 falken ziex on my 17's and i love them. good all around street tire.
It's a matter of how well they fit
I would skip all the hassle with spacers and get the new et15 16x8 SportMax 501's in red, get some OTG 10mm shims to make the rears even with the fronts, roll your rear fenders (which I just had done, HUGE difference) and you're done.
It will look way cooler, be less expensive and much safer.

the thing is.. i see it two ways.. i have a car slammed on some deep dish tiny rims... or i have some medium sized "racey" rims. i just want a simple flow so i was looking for gt3's in silver. i just wanted to know what i'd have to do to get it to look decent with the suspension set up i'm planning on getting too

The fronts already stick out quite far so I would do the 10 mm OTG rear spacers behind the backing plate to bring them out more to match the fronts. Then go with the 35mm offset wheels all the way around so you can rotate the tires properly. The proper size 16 inch tire would be 205/50/16 and would be just slightly taller than the 185/60/15's you will be replacing. Here is the link to the tire/whell calculator I got this info from.
