2009 Matrix rumors
I heard the 2008 Matrix will offer the 2.4L engine
From what I understand, the base model will start out with the new Dual VVTi 1.8, like the new Corolla, but instead of a high RPM VVTLi (like the old XRS), the "sportier" Matrix model will now use the 2.4 Camry engine. Not sure if 4WD will be offered this time.
Looks like Toyota is banking on this 2.4 engine, and I'm pretty sure it'll also offer the same 'ol TRD supercharger.
If what I've heard is true, this car better look amazing or offer something special, because Scion sells both of these motors in two different cars of relative size and shape. Both Matrix models would have to compete with the xD and xB2.
Anyway, I just really hope they don't slap an XRS badge on the Camry powered Matrix.
Unless it comes factory supercharged.

My point was, if they offer a 1.8 Matrix AND a 2.4 Matrix, it will be in direct competition with both new Scions.
I guess we'll know for sure on Halloween.
