Consumer Reports just did a study about car brand perceptions.

The perception info is from their recent study, reliability information is based on data CR collected about 1.4 million vehicles.

It's perception vs repair bills.

Brand Perception — Top 10

1. Toyota
2. Honda
3. Ford
4. Cadillac
5. Mercedes-Benz
6. GMC
7. Lexus
8. BMW
9. Chevrolet
10. Volvo

Actual Reliability — Top 10

1. Scion
2. Acura
3. Honda
4. Toyota
5. Lexus
6. Infiniti
7. Subaru
8. Hyundai
9. Mitsubishi
10. Kia

... and Ford, Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, GMC, BMW, Chevrolet, and Volvo from the "perceptions" list were not.

Looks like Kia and Hyundai PR folks need to work on that a little bit, eh? Those two have improved TREMENDOUSLY in recent years.

Still not as good as the best, but better than probably 80% of the market.

(Yeah, I was surprised, too.)

Congrats toyota, but Mitsubishi is in the top ten? They are hunks of sh*t (speaking from personal experience)

Remember that's not saying all instance of all models are that good, but that "overall" that particular brand is, on the average, that good.

(And maybe that shows how truly bad some of the others are...)
