Default Looking into a Supra

I am really interested in getting a 1993-98 Toyota Supra twin turbo, manual (cause the N/A or auto just doesnt seem worth it). I want one that is completely stock. I have been told it is possible to find them in the $20K range but it would have high miles on it. I'm really hoping I can find one because they are beautiful. Is there anything I should look out for when buying a Supra with high miles on it or is it a bad idea all together? If anyone has any words of wisdom or knows of anything available let me know!! Thanks!

Twin turbo is better ofcource, if you can afford it. Keep in mind the insurance for a Supra twin turbo will be very high especially because your 18. They are very nice cars though... Good luck.

yeah i'm sure insurance will be a _____! I will be 19 on the 17th and will probably be close to 20 by the time i have the money, sell the tc and find a supra! so my insurance wont be too outrageous plus i have a great driving record. i dont know i guess we'll see!

What do yall think should be the max amount of miles the car should have on it? There are some I have found that have 150k-200k and that seems like ALOT of miles. Should I stay away from supras with that high of mileage?

Under 25? Your f-ed. $4,000 insurance per half year. Enjoy.

Twin Turbo Sports Coupe

Red flag, red flag, yellow flag.

Parents both work insurance. Enjoy.

200,000 miles? Dont boost a 200,000 mile engine.

imo, you may want to look at the insurance premium and car payment as "one payment". give your decision a second look because the combined insurance/car payment on this vehicle opens up a lot of other options as well. just saying....

hmmm. i have both of the cars listed in my sig and insurance is only 250 a month. keep in mind im 23 and i have a good record. you can get a mildly used supra and just save up so that you can build up the motor and go single while fixing anything that needs attention. if youre bpu like me youll have fun with the power it offers until youre ready to go really fast. dont bother getting an na supra. why waste youre money unless youre gonna turbo it later on. like any old car just be ready to replace certain parts because supras are 8-13 year old cars. btw parts for the car are expensive :X

I get a $8,000 check cut to me every January and August from my school because of all the scholarships I get and that is after tuition. After books/school crap and other ____, i have about 6k left over plus I work about 30 hrs a week during the semester and 40 during breaks. If i didnt have the money i wouldnt even consider the purchase. I know there are alot more cars out there but why buy one if it isnt what you want. If i dont buy the supra, i'll probably just stick with the tc.

You can put the Supra under your parent(s) name and say its their primary car and put you down as an additional driver. I did that to my 07 Pontiac G6 GTP convertible

Ok, here is the deal... If you are worried about affording the insurance, go N/A-T. Just buy a N/A, then get a kit for it. It will still cost you less than a TT, and the insurance will be cheaper. As for mileage, mine is a '94 TT, 6 speed, purchased 3 years ago with 100K, bone stock, for 20grand. Supras hold the value. The motors can handle just about anything you throw at them. The common problems are valve seals. Other than that, the lower end can handle 1000hp no problem along with the trans and rear end. Toyota over developed the whole car.

When you really want to go fast, get in touch. I sell just about everything you would ever need for that car and have installed it myself. If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me and I will help you out.

If money is an issue you may want to look at a 300zx TT. Overall it's a very similar car and relatively worthy competitor (Especially if you *aren't* looking for 600+hp). They're much more reasonably priced. A word to the wise though, if you're even remotely hesitant on money, don't do it. These cars cost much more to insure, fuel, maintain, and modify than you're probably used to.

How experienced of a driver are you? Jumping into a high powered, turbo, RWD car can be quite a handful. Even in stock form TTZs and Supras are pretty monstrous, especially in bad weather.

TT Supra = 280hp stock
300zx TT = 280-300hp stock (but slower than a 350Z)

My 350Z comes with 287 hp stock, but not even close to being monstrous and difficult to handle. Maybe I'm a good driver..

Wrong on all counts.

TT Supra = 320hp
300zx TT= 300hp

And the TTZ is faster than the 350z (though not by much, and healthy unmodified TTZs are increasingly rare).

You may well be a good driver, that's why I was asking her. For all we know, she's a 19 year old that's never driven a RWD car before, let alone one with 300+hp. If she's been autocrossing her dad's Mustang her whole life or something than it's different. That's why I asked the question. Your Z may not be monstrous but it's not dealing with turbos coming online mid-corner like a Z32 either.

As for money, the SUPRA is by far a better investment than a 300zx TT. The supra will hold the value regardless of mileage or age. The mkiv is a very valuable car and if you plan on having it for a while, modding, or even just enjoying the car, its definitley a great investment.

As for the price of modding it, its not that bad. If you step up like I did with the BIG twins, cams injectors, things like that, it gets pricey. If you stay BPU+ which can generate about 400whp, the cost will stay decently low.

As for comparing a supra TT to a 350z, there is no comparison. The raw power delivery of a bone stock supra TT will destroy a stock 350z.

If you are mid corner with a supra when that second turbo comes online, you will spin it off into the woods if you dont know what you are doing.

Nissans were dodgy dur'n that time. They'll take a lot more work to keep them go'n. the Supra, be'n a toyota, will last forever.
sometimes I wish I'd bought a supra instead of my celie.

but yeah Supra's are great, but the one thing you have to watch like noted above is insurance, I've known guys in their 40's to literally pay out the ___ for a TT just to get one speeding ticket and get coverage dropped. I've been told they class in the same area as ferrari's and ____ (if that doesn't sound dumb)
