Just hope we didn't work at cross purposes on this, Max. I did a three way ban on this a 3:54PM PST.
Folks, this is one of HUNDREDS of spam bots we are fighting right now. They can create an ID and post 30-40 spam posts in a few minutes, whereas we have to first off ban them (to stop the posting) then go after the spam posts on a one-at-a-time basis. It takes us roughly 10 times as long to get rid of these posts as it does for these bots to post them, and that's not cou8nting the delays from answering a batch of topics and PMs griping about them.
If you have any helpful suggestions I'd be very happy to hear them, folks!

I don't know how most of us would be able to live without it, but if there's an update for phpBB (that's what Darren is using for this board, right?) that would strengthen the security for this kind of stuff, then I'd be all for having the forums down for a day or so for the benefit of being able to surf at work again.

Darren's working on some additional protections for us, and should have something added in the next 24 - no telling how effective it will be, though. These bots are very smart and very fast - and they learn.
