Default Forums are Very Slow

The forum pages are taking 30 Seconds or more to load for me. I know its not a problem on my end, this connection costs more per month than a new xB.

Probably not too much can be done... there are almost 600 people online right now. It's just a busy time.

Hell, it has been like this all day!!! I have been on Cable, DSL and a T1 connection and it has been like this all day. Sometimes as long as 1 minute to load. This is the only site I am experiencing this on. Unfortunately, some Mod is going to lock this thread as they do not want to hear anything bad.

SL IS SLOW~!~~

...and you will find this is about the eleventeenth topic on this problem, and mods have not only not locked 'em, but have often chimed in with additional information to support it.

The locking only comes from the guy paying the (BIG) bills for the servers that you use for free. He is aware of the problem, and is working to alieviate it. Generally he will acknowledge the topic, say that he is working on it, then lock it, the topic having doen it's job of letting him know there is a problem.

(As a Mod, I do NOT appreciate that sort of comment about how we perform our jobs. We do our best to keep the place running in an orderly manner, and probably have more grief from the site being slow that the average user. I'll just note that comment on my little list here, dagarhart.)

SL is always slow for me. Now lately more than ever.

Forgive me if I'm just missing it but the only mention of the site being slow, on the first page of this forum, is dated 4/24 and did not contain any sort of explanation as to why.

I became a premium member to help with the cost of the site. Quite a few of us are, and I hope our paying status entitles us at least a little explanation on why the site isn't running well at all.

Let's give Dagarheart a break here, he has every right to say whatever he wants regarding any moderator on this website.

Just b/c person x is a moderator does not mean that person y needs to hold back any comment that they might have wanted to say about the forums or about that respective mod.

This has been happening all over the internet as is now why forums are regarded as useless places to learn anything worthwhile because its nothing but senseless banter, and moderators with ego-trips.

Im not calling out any 'mod' in particular but in general, take it easy. Its not rocket science, dont be so serious.

Everyone play nice, so SL can continue to be a decent forum with good people on it.

And making us feel guilty about complaining about a free site that is slow isnt right either, they BIG bills are taken care of trust me.

I can appreciate why Tomas, or any other moderator, are upset by the comment. I also can appreciate the frustration (but it could of been expressed better).

After looking at how many people have premium memberships, I don't think it's a money issue keeping the site running smoothly. Maybe it's just hard to keep playing catch up with how fast the site grows?

Bottom line is that I don't support things that don't work right or don't keep me informed a bit on why things aren't going right. That's not really being snotty, it's just a common way people go about deciding where and when and why to spend their money.

Oddly enough two of those were started by a Mod.

if the answer we all seek is hidden in very old posts (early April and Feb), then this problem was never solved?

I just came looking for a reason and none is really given. I don't know if a currently slow running website is an issue one really has or should use a search button for, you know?

I hope the server problem gets fixed and that we can be let in a bit on what's doin'.

I saw the same thing. I know I havent posted much, but I've been here over a year nearly two, and pages load slow or even time out at times.

so anyhow its a known on-going issue... but it gets to the point where its so slow I want to start looking elsewhere, and I'm sure thats not something the admin(s) want.

I guess if its a known issue thats too expensive to fix then thats that.

Yes, I understand that we use this for free. I normally wait a site out about 1 year before I decide to become a paying member to see how the site owners decide to handle situations. But a few of us have tried to point out the problem starting months ago.

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...878&highlight=

And if I remember correctly, it was not even the first post back then.

Isn't or wasn't part of the financing of this board done by Scion corporate? The point I was just trying to make was that every time anyone has ever mentioned how slow the board was getting, someone locks the thread. It was almost as if they tried to hide the fact that there could be problems.

I just wanted to point out the fact that as soon as somone in previous web discussion topics, I thought that is where it should belong, mentioned a problem about the site, it was never responded to and locked. That is all. I know being a mod can be difficult, but I thought that is what that posting area was for. That was my whole reason for making that comment. Problems with SL getting slow stem before my 12/8 post. In fact, I believe that Thomas also noted it another day prior to that. So what is this regional typic "Web Discussions" for?

So what is this regional typic "Web Discussions" for?
The Website Discussion forum has two primary purposes.

(1) For users of the site to suggest changes, new features, and other ideas, and
(2) For users to bring problems to the attention of administrators and moderators.

In either case, if it is something that the moderators can take care of by offering some help, we generally do, and once we have done that, if it doesn't need the further attention of the administrators, we lock the topic.

For those things that remain unlocked for the administrators' attention, they will generally respond, but in any case they usually lock the topics once they have responded.

Why all this focus on locking or not locking the topics? Because the supermoderators and administrators use a tool to monitor those items in the Website Discussion forum that shows the top ten items that have not been locked. Locking a topic drops it off the hot list.

That's also why occasionally a topic that has been answered is not locked - to keep it on the list as a reminder.

Now, let's look at the site being slow. The members are all aware of this. The moderators are all aware of this. The supermoderators are all aware of this. The administrators are all aware of this.

The admin level has responded that they are aware of the problem and are working on it. Since we all see the problem every time we use the site, no further reminder is necessary, and therefore an admin locked the topic, and the next topic, and the next topic, and likely this topic, if I don't type faster.

Since the problem is one that people are getting upset about, I am going to suggest this topic remain open until the problem is either fixed or it is determined it can't be right now.

Leaving the topic open keeps it on the hot list, and also allows two-way communication so everyone can be informed. (It also reduces the chance of yet another topic on the same problem because users are not seeing any relief.)

I realize that everyone knows the website is slow (it took me 147 seconds to load today - 83 seconds to load this page here). I just want to know why it's like that and why the fixing process takes this long.

1. I am now on a first name basis with my hourglass (first name not to be repeated)
2. The Mods do not lock these posts to hide anything--my personal observation and opinion
3. I truly enjoy the site and support it as a premium member
4. I hope all is well and if need be we support the site financially to the best of our ability.
