Why are premium members required to have a certain number of posts before we can post in the "off topic" forum? I can understand wanting to curb spammers as I run a huge community myself, but it should be pretty obvious that a member who donates money to the site every month is not going to risk losing his membership by spamming in the "off topic" forum.

 

That's probably a good question. I think that premium members can post in the Classifieds earlier than normal, but not sure why not OT.

 

Premium Members ARE allowed to post in classifieds and off-topic. When a member is upgraded they are added to the Premium Member usergroup, which gives them access to tech areas, increases their gallery, etc. They are also added to the SL Member usergroup, which gives them access to the PPC and OT areas.

The problem is that the forum software automatically recalculates post counts periodically, and ANYONE that has less than 50 posts is removed from the SL Member usergroup -- regardless of Premium Member status. It is a limitation of our software, and on the occasion that it happens and I am notified by the member that they are having problems I can solve the problem.

In the next month when we install the new forum software I should be able to solve this once and for all.

P.S. I know everyone have his / her favorites, but you really should check out VB. While I admin a few sites that run phpBB as well, nothing matches VB in it's ability for user permissions. ;)

 

phpbb 3.0 is releasing soon, I will be upgrading to that. I HAVE used almost all the forums, and phpbb is my personal favorite. They all have their pros and cons.
