Default Dealership ripping me off?

I recently got lowering springs installed in my Xa and I was really satisfied with the service over at Toyota. The car feels great and I love drop so i decided to go back and get some quotes on some other parts. I asked about 2 in detail... The TRD Exhaust and the CAI.

The guy gave me some crazy wacked out prices and said he wouldn't know how much installation would cost, so I peaced out.
I wrote down the prices,
$516 for the exhaust
$536 for the intake
And these were before installation...

I'm not a pro when it comes to this (obviously) but I feel like something is a miss.

Some suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

$299 for the exhaust on eBay from a dealer that sells there:
eBay TRD-COLD-AIR-INTAKE

Well, I've seen sites that sell them online. Only problem is my dad is real finicky about the whole warranty deal, that's why we're going through the dealer. Any way I'd be able to order the part online and just have them install it? And has anyone else been ripped off this bad before by the dealership?

If you have to go through the dealer, buy the parts from www.trdsparks.com and have the dealer install them. However, if I were you I would get the exhaust and just put it on your self. Its two bolts and some rubber hangers....you can't really screw it up. I think those prices that he quoted you should be WITH installation. Check Scions website.

Yeah, the guy was a real jerk, I was surprised. He made some crack about me driving a scion and some jive about new parts being a waste. I almost feel like never going back there ever again and just voiding my warranty out of spite.

In any case thanks for the advice, I'll check out some other threads for the exhaust installation. Many thanks

also know that you wont blow your warrenty for adding an intake or axle back. Toyota HAS to prove that the product you added caused there product to fail. That is the only way to blow yor warrenty for that PART. So if your intake cause your MAF to go south and they can prove that the oils in the new filter cause it the MAF senser warrenty is blown. But if they say that they wont replace your tranny that failed because of your intake or axle back you have a case which you will win.

Just install them yourself. You're not going to void your warranty.

^ True, true... There's absolutely no way the exhaust could even potentially foul something up... and it's tough for an intake to screw something up.

Those dealerships should be ashamed for chargeing such hi prices. They don't even include the lube at those prices, lol.

Unless u get lucky on ebay or something this site is the cheapest that I've been able to find.

Most Scion accessories, especially those listed as accessories that can be bought with the vehicle at first sale, are installation included. If the dealer is saying otherwise, they need to re-think what they are saying.

If "Part A" is $500 out the door when added to a new car, it is still $500 installed a week later for a walk-in.

Challenge the "plus installation" BS...

talk about rip off ... i took my car to service it yesterday and i asked some guy to give me a quote for installing my spoiler he told me to go to a little body shop instead ... then i asked how much would installation cost to add the scion navagation on my 06 xA .... this tool told me that i should've gotten it when i first purchased my car .... i was like HELLO!!! the navi just became available

on top of all of that the sevice department called and told me i had a nail in my front left tire and it wasnt repairable so i had to buy a new STOCK tire for an outrageous 140 bux

screw that i took it to Lopez Tires here in Compton and got it fixed for 7 bux lol

screw trd parts. go totally aftermarket dude! i got hks intake and exhaust. don't know about headers tho. got exhaust for $370, intake for $135 with shipping included. Going to do it myself. i got all the tools, spent about $500 getting the absolute best in manly tools. The intake is easy, pull out the old intake, some screws and some plugs, the aftermarket intake will be much easier. just pop it in and plug in all the stuff that was unplugged and tighten some stuff. exhaust is just bolt on, not hard at all. Makes you feel good working on your own car and doing your own mods.

it sounds like the dealership you are going to isn't very customer friendly. If you have to get work done at a dealership go to a different one.

If you have any mechanical ability at all these are the easiest cars to work on. Give it a try and you will feel good about working on your car.

there is a little more to installing an intake than that, but there are some great write-ups in the tech section.

oh, superboxcarxb I love the absolute best in manly tools line, lol

yeah those$ 500+ prices are a bit whack. that HAS to include installation. i agree with others, go non-OEM aftermarket. it'll cost you less, you'll get "better" performance, and you'll have more unique parts.
i have the dealer AEM CAI, TRD Exhaust, and Hotchkis strut bar right now (came on my used box), and honestly, they're nice, but if i could start over from scratch, would have gone differently. that being said, i'm replacing my TRD exhaust in a couple of weeks ...

but yes, the dealership seems to be trying to suck money from you. don't give in.
