View Full Version : Projector headlights
Tc808 10-26-2004, 06:22 AM Okay guys, please don't beat on me too much for asking a stupid question as I am not familiar with HID's. Is it possible to run HID's in those JDM or APC projector headlights? Would it work if you fabricated a cut-off to prevent glare?
Thanks.
Soon2BxB 10-26-2004, 07:07 AM its not a good idea ....
the apc headlights are junk.. have crappy beam patterns and were not designed for hid .. therefore there will be tons of glare
as for the JDM headlights... the beam pattern is reverserd due to the RHD .. so the flare is on the left instead of the right ... hid into those headlights will still give off glare and having that right hand flare with hid in it iwll be bothersome to drivers on the road
do it the right way .. do a hid retrofit like i did
Tc808 10-26-2004, 08:11 AM Thanks for the info. I would probably attempt doing a retrofit if I had some experience doing it and I'd hate to screw up the housing and end up having to buy a new one.
Soon2BxB 10-26-2004, 08:53 AM check out www.hidretro.com
thats my friend Lieps website... he did my retro and has done my other 2 retros..
top notch work and the price for labor is very good for what you get ... his work is TOP NOTCH
hes actually currently working on a TC retro
hotbox05 10-26-2004, 09:12 AM honestly are hid's really friggin worth it? i mean i see hid's next to 6500k bulbs and not too much different i mean yeah brighter but damn 750 - 1300 worth?
Soon2BxB 10-26-2004, 11:11 AM go get in a car that has good hid lighting .,... ala s2k .. tsx .. 04 + acura TL ...
drive it around at night .... then get back in your car
then you tell me if its worth it
its like comparing a flood light to a candle ...
and yes they are worth EVERY penny
I would be more then happy to meet up with anyone in the mass area ... let them take a ride in the box at night to check out the hids .. then they can decide if its worth it
i took a friend for a ride in a car i had witha s2000 retrofit ... and when he got out and got back in his car.. he had to double check his headlights 2 times to make sure they were even on
Soon2BxB 10-26-2004, 11:14 AM honestly are hid's really friggin worth it? i mean i see hid's next to 6500k bulbs and not too much different i mean yeah brighter but damn 750 - 1300 worth?
also ... dont be fooled... REAL hid lighting BLOWS away a 6500k crap kit ...
real hid is 4100-4300K ..... at that color temp you are able to have the most visible light
anything higher .. is purely for looks and actually lessens visbility ... for example .. an 8000k kit is barely brighter then standard halogen ..
hotbox05 10-26-2004, 11:30 AM i guess it's just that i'm broke and am forced to make do with ____ty stuff all my life. so i just downplay all things expensive whether nice or not.

dont get this delusion that im rich man .... its like anyone else who wants JDM rims or a nice bodykit ...
you just gotta work and save
nothing is handed to me ... i work 50+ hours a week to get what i have
irv_usc 10-27-2004, 11:32 PM once you drive in a car with HID it's really hard to go back...
but soon2bxb, what are you doing for high beams now that you've retro'd?
