Default Not happy at all with stock HU.......Is "premium"

Just got my 08 Xb and to save a few bucks, I opted for the stock Head Unit.
I am very disappointed with the sound quality.

-Does the premium Hu offer better sound? Or is it just "flashier"?

-Are the speakers more to blame?

-Does the premium Hu offer a separate adjustment for bass? (it does have front, rear, and sub outs....right?)

-I want to stay with a factory HU.....I did spring for the XM upgrade and don't want that to go to waste.

Thanks, Brian

If the dealer didn't go over the SSP button with you, then that could be where your lack of sound is coming from. Just to clarify, in case you didn't find the posts. You have 3 settings; Neutral, Hear, and Feel. Just press the SSP button to get the setting you want. All Scions come in set on Neutral, unless someone from the dealer changed them already. Also, if you press and hold the SSP button, you can change your "Car Type". This setting comes will automatically be set to tC, again, unless it has been changed by someone at the dealership. To change this setting, press and hold the SSP button. When "Car Type..." displays on your LCD screen, use your volumn button to change the setting. On the xB, set to xB, or xD, a lot of people prefer to have this set on xD, a little better sound.

The "stock" HU DOES NOT have RCA outputs. Either purchase an aftermarket HU, Premium Scion HU, or purchase a converter.

Good luck.

I have the premium HU and its good for what it does. It looks good, has outputs for when I hooked up my sub & I'm glad I got it over the basic one.

And for the stock speakers, IMO they do suck. I hated it when trying to turn the bass on them because they would "crackle" alot. I installed the sub and it didn't bother me as much but I will one day upgrade them.

Thanks for answering me so fast....The only question I really have left is, can the sub outputs be controlled independantly? Or does the sub simply react to the volume control in conjunction with the main speakers?

You can not control them independantly. Go into the radio settings and set the level that you want (kinda like a gain control) for the sub, thereafter the master volume controls all.
