I was lookin at my Xb today, I'm thinkin about lowering it but it often snows a great deal around here and I don't want my front lip to become a snowplow, or my rear lip to get torn off by the white stuff. Has anyone removed the lips for winter driving? If so , are they easy to get on and off?

It is easy to remove (just a bew bolts)
however it will leave your lower radiator and windshield washer tank
exposed and vulnerable to damage.

I am trying to make a "short lip"
as soon as I can get a spare to cut up and modify.

A short lip would be awesome, especially if it was made out of plain black plastic so you didn't have to worry about the paint. It would ba good if someone made a set of them front and rear they woudl sell like hotcakes for $100 or less.

you guys get that much snow? :? I've always lived in the city, so I've never really had a problem here in WA state... anyone know about Virginia beach? posts like this worry me... :(

dont worry the front of the xb is a snow plow ive taken the car
to the mountian to snowboard and no problems yet trac system lets me pass crvs in bad situations not bad for a front wheel drive. btw i have the stock tires on factory alloy wheels snow and those 45 series tires on 18s dont fare well

We average 114 inches of snow a year up here. there are many days that I drive through 4 inches or more ont the actual road. I run snow tires on the stock wheels.,

Why not sell metal lips that could be used to actually plow the snow?

Yes you could remove them, but then the black plastic cover that runs from the front bumper to the engine, would not have as much support, and then that will probably rip off from the snow. I plowed through about 4-6 inches this morning- and didnt find any snow stuck in the lower grill!

hey turbosnow, at least we've been lucky so far this year.
we had about an inch so for down in binghamton.
im not too worried about the white stuff though , i still have my beater s-10 pick-'em up truck.

Yeah this year has bee remarkably light so far, but I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I grew up in Ithaca, you can;t believe the diffference in snowfall that 60 miles makes. Syracuse gets so much more than southern NY due to the lake effect.

It's those days when you get a 14" snowstorm that have me concerned. I don't have an xB yet but it has risen to the top of my list as a replacement for my 2001 Passat when the lease comes up due next summer. I live in SLC and it isn't too unusual to have snow storms that dump up to 14" of snow in the valley. The city has a good snowplow crew that clears the major roads pretty quickly but some of the residential roads and side streets have to wait until the major stuff is finished. I'm sure there will be times when I would be blazing the trail through an unplowed section of roadway. I plan on getting a set of good snow tires to help me get around but it would be nice if Scion would bring the AWD version of the xB stateside to help out in conditions like that.

Prob with removing the front lip. The undertray connects to the lip. You then have to remove that as well. Thats a lot of work for jus the winter. You may have to get the whole bumper off just to remove the lip. May as well do better horns while your at it.

Ah, the joys of living in the South.

Except for the freakish 13" that got dumped on us last winter, we get about two snow storms a year and they don't lay down more than 3 inches. Even then, most people just stay in until it melts. It's a much more civilized way to handle it. Hell, they shut down everything if there's only a CHANCE of snow. We're such wimps.

Today is shirtsleeve weather. My heart goes out to all y'all in the frozen regions.
