Not HID related, but have you tried adjusting your headlights. When I first got my xB I thought the headlights were horrible. Then I searched the forums and found out you can raise them.... problem solved. I think I raised each side about 13 notches and the difference is amazing (and free).
Here is the link I used (it's for an xB though, not sure how your xD is adjusted but probably the same).

^^ good response.
But if you end up having to get HIDs, they're a basic install. But if I remember correctly, you shouldn't go higher then 8000k (someone correct me if I'm wrong) because itll be too bright and the light will reflect too high and not the actual road.
Installing your own parts brings skill and self satisfaction. As well as some extra dough in your pocket ; )

With a plug and play kit it is very simple. You unplug your headlight bulbs. Then you plug the plug and play kit into where your bulb used to be. This kit is made up of that connector, a wire, a ballast, another wire, and a bulb. Installing a plug and play kit is the same as replacing a headlight bulb, with the only exception is that you have to mount your ballast somewhere. This is a small black or grey box that is needed to run HIDs. Just find an empty space and use some zip ties to secure it. You want to make sure it's not going to get wet or bounce around.
This all might require removing your bumper which is also self explanatory but a little challenging the first couple times.
And yea 3k is yellow, 4.3k is white, 6 k is blueish white, 8 k is dark blueish white, 10 k is starting to get purple, 12 k is purple. The best to see is 4300 but the color is more important to most people, but you probably know all this being you have HIDs.

I had a heckuva time with my 8000K HIDs. I don't know if I didn't have them aimed correctly or what, but during normal driving, the beam pattern was crazy and I couldn't get very good illumination except on dark, dark roads. There is a whole thread here https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=211347 that might help you.
