engine loud ticking sound when idle
recently i found out when idling, my engine making a loud ticking sound, it's not normal valves ticking sound...it's loud..it happenned when i drove the car for a while and stopped by the roadside idling wait for my friend, it can be heard even inside my car..i popped up the hood and it seen came from the housing at the timing chain area, so will it be some bad valves or something loose inside the time chain area? if i park my car at a slope curve (passenger side lower than driver side), the ticking sound is more obvious..anyone has the same problem?
Sounds like the problem that i had recently. Went to Toyota and they said that it was either a bad bearing on the water pump, or the tensioner bolt. They said that it wasnt going to lead to any major problems, so i can get it repaired any time. might wanna just head to toyota and find out for yourself.
You didnt happen to run over something when you pulled off the road and get it stuck against belt or pulley? If it were a bad water pump bearing or other pulley bearing I would think the dealer would replace it before it failed. If you are trying to self diagnois it, pull off accessory belt and start it up, see if noise is gone. If so you know the problem is in one of the accessories(water pump, altenator,ps,ac or idler pulley). Dont leave it running for very long like that but it will be fine to start up and check for noise.
i check my engine compartment..it's clean and clear, just when i start my car in cold, it's fine...no bad sound, only after when i drive it and the the engine get hot, the sound came out, i'm thinking of some bearing problems also....might take a trip to dealer but i hate the long line and all the BS that dealer give u....
