Ok, so i just recently got my xB and I got a question. I have a manual and going about 80mph my tac is showing 4k rpm. Is this right? This seems high considering in socal I will mainly going around 75mph so thats mid 3k rpm. Should there be a 6th gear or something? lol am I missing something?

Also, I asked this question in another thread but might as well ask again. Can I fit 19" rims on an xB?

gah. thats wierd because a friend of mine has an auto xb and at 80 its barely over 3k rpm's. Does this mean the manual is actually more of a gas guzler then an auto?

thats sicccc btw munch.

If you want to call it a gas guzler then yes   . Thanks for the compliment and that's an old picture of my ride. It looks much different now 8)

Ok another question. What is the best way to reduce high rpm's at high speed?

Would exhaust and intake increase efficiency ontop of performance? Heh im visiting my parents right now or i would ask my more car savy roommates. sorry for all the questions.

1. You could try to run a taller tire to reduce rpms just a bit, but then your speedometer is gonna be off also.
2. exhaust and intake will give you more power up top.

Don't worry about it. The car is designed to run there. And yes, the Auto does run at a lower RPM - It's O/D gear is a lower ratio.

yup, I spin 4k rpm at 80 mph in 5th gear also.

And I still get at least 30 mpg!

To really lower the RPMs, your gonna have to change the fifth speed gear in the tranny. And whatever gears are hooked up to fifth gear. A nice exhaust will help you out on performance also, its weird how the auto and manual have different rpm readings. The auto is actually louder than the manual with an aftermarket exhaust. Thats why we have axle backs designed for both the auto and manual. :D

yes, 4000 rpm seems high. but if i can get 40MPG on an 400 mile road trip going 80 the whole way- then obviously toyota did something right!

i have a tire size guager on my work computer that show the difference between stock and any size you set over stock, being 185/60 r 15. 18s with 215/35 r18s are about 3% over stock which sets your speedo off by 1 mph at 65 mph. with 19s on 215/35 r19 tires, which is 5% over stock, your speedo is off by 3 mph at 65 meaning its reading 68 mps. just a little fyi

RPM has very little to do with gas mileage... the biggest contributor to bad gas mileage is excessive acceleration and higher speeds...

for highway driving getting larger wheels will not change your gas mileage... it will most likely reduce your in town mileage because of the reduction in gearing you will make up the difference with more pedal, which translates to more penalty at the pump...
