Hey.. I was wondering can I take my 06' tc for TSB service to the dealer? I got mine tc back in 06' of april. and will it cost me anything?(I have never take it for TSB service before)
"the hatch rattle is driving me CRAZY!!"

Thanks in advance.
(the only time i've took it for a tsb is for the side air bag default, which was like 2-3 years ago)

But they will try to fix it i'm sure.

actually they can a TSB is not a recall..... if your car falls under 3yreas or 36k than no charge but if you are over than be careful they can and will charge for it.

I think the TSB procedures for the hatch rattle was only a band aid fix IMO.
mine still rattle after they service it.

Once and for all:

A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin. It alerts the dealer body that a "possible" problem has been identified in a significant number of cars, and provides a solution to fix it.

These items are covered under warranty, but of course your car must still be under the warranty period.

A TSB can be addressed after your warranty expires, but you will pay for it.

It's "possible" that under "certain" circumstances a field person may approve a "good will" fix, but this isn't something that should be counted on.

This is an unlikely fix. Do some experimentation on your own to arrive at the source...

i think all that tsb is about is putting a different sized bump stop on the hatch itself. you can accomplish the same thing with 1/2" thick X 1/2" wide foam weather stripping at lowes. the sticky back kind. just put that on the bump stops and it should insulate against the noise as the hatch bounces up and down.

the other fix was re-adjusting the striker plate for the lock. or was that the xb, i can't remember. try the foam tape weatherstripping first. cheap, and quick.

Default foam under bumper stops

I tried this fix once and it does work, but the foam will comprise over time and the rattle will come back. Someone here used 1/4 inch rubber peice under the bumper stops and has stated it worked great. That is my next try once the weather warms. If you contact Scion directly they will work something out with the dealer to fix it for free even if out of warrenty, but dont' hold your breath that it will be fixed. Do a search and you should be able to find the repair.

here is the link for cardboard, but I'm going to try small peices of rubber.

jjp735i is right, it will compress over time, but it's a cheap fix and quick to replace if it does wear out.
where to place the foam weatherstripping is on the bottom side of the bump stop on the hatch itself not the body of the car. I say 1/2 inch thick foam because it will compress. You want it thick enough to insulate from movement but not so much that you can't close the hatch. try that out and see if the noise stops. I think a pack of 1/2" X 1/2" single sticky sided weatherstripping is like maybe $3 at least you'll be able to start figuring out what is rattling back there

and you're welcome, no prob.
