Pure Price, a ripoff in this economy?
Just thinking. All the other brands are offering these huge discounts to move their vehicles. Even makers who dont have problems selling their cars. Should Toyota/Scion reconsider pure-price, as trade-in values plummet and the worth of a car generally declines.
I want to get the wife a new car, and I love my scion, but I think that pure-price is kind of a rip-off in these times. Especially when I was just offered $10k for the TC that I paid $19k for in 2007, that currently has 23k miles (pampered). I told them that pure price means no mark-up, and was basically told tough.
I can go across the street to other import dealers and get like $3k off sticker, while the Scion dealership wont budge on the price.
Is this a good idea???
Thoughts?

Sure I guess you can argue that. Still the tC is alot better of a value than an Si still. It comes with more standard features that you would have to pay for on the Si (using these two since they are compared alot).
But hey the economy is bad, take advantage, if I could I would stop over to the nearest Mitsu dealership and cop me an Evo X. The markups and deals on those are crazy

I would argue that. I have oft looked at getting into an Si and I disagree that they are not a better deal. I see that the supercharged Tc is still slower than the Si, but otherwise, take the stock Tc, and give it a differential, the supercharger, fog lights, spoiler, install cost, ect, I still think that the Si is probably a better deal.
You cannot get a 6 speed on the Tc and at 85 Mph, you are really running the motor hard with the 5 speed.
My point being that I think that Scion should re-consider this pure-price, or offer some deals, because I dont think that I will get another one otherwise. There simply are better buys out there.

Pure pricing meamns no BS. If you are able to get a car cheaper than the sticker price then that just means it was marked up to begin with. If you are that concerned get a 1 year old scion? When I bought my 2007 new the used tCs were only slightly cheaper than a new tC. Get the deal on the person needing to sell the one year old since they NEED to sell it.
How much of a better deal would a fella be getting if a Honda dealer knocked $2k of the MSRP on a Civic Si, or a Mazdaspeed 3, or a Genesis Coupe turbo, or a GTI . . .
Need I continue.
My point being that the equally equipped Tc, costs more than what dealers are selling much nicer/faster cars for right now due to this pure price deal. Sure, the other cars were probably marked up to begin with, but also, dealerships are killing to move vehicles, which makes for even better deals, while all the while Scion dealerships are likely going to just "hide" behind their pure price MO.
In my opinion, thus, Pure Price is a complete rip-off at the present, when one can get a much better car for the same amount of cash.

I really like the idea of pure pricing because it makes estimating your purchase price much easier, creates less stress between the dealer and the buyer, prevents them from gouging you, etc. What I think they need to do is change the pure pricing more. This way the dealership is happy because they get an even cut, dont have to mess with customers trying to haggle them and the buyer is happy because he gets a car that is priced more fairly without the troubles of haggling. Only problem is its quite a bit more work to change the prices more often.
The Si is a superior car to the tC. Period. Lets get that out of the way.
I still say though the tC has a better value than the Si. You get all the standard features for that same sticker price. You dont need an EX, LX, or Si model with all different stuff on it. The $2k you save on an Si from dealership markdowns will only be nulled when you pay $2k for just a different model (EX to LX for example.)

pure price does mean they can't mark it up. doesn't say they cant mark it down. they just use pure price as a reason not to budge, hoping you'll agree with them and be stupid. i was one of those people until i found out what pure pricing really was a few months ago. ask them for the paperwork about pure pricing and read it. i can almost guarantee there's a part in there that states that the price can go down, but not up.
Two seperate transactions dude.
You bought an excellent car that normally would have a price of $20-22k with similar equipment and a japanese name plate. Instead you payed only $18,400 + accessories.
You are up $2000 ahead even when you look at rebates and the like from Toyota and Honda on their products.
What can I say except you were smart and frugal.
Where the heck is the rip off.
none

Trade Value is the way the world spins. Prius were the hottest thing on four wheels last year with the crazy gas prices going out of control. Used were almost as much as new. Now , now you can get a new one almost a thousand cheaper than last year and not have to order and wait.
If you buy a Cobolt or Focus piece of poo with their rebates and then see where the trade value is. FYI 07 Cobolt with like equipment to your tC has a trade value is $7200. Well worth the $1000 rebate?! Heck your are still up $1800 on trade after adding the rebate back in and you were driving a much much nicer car.
I wish MORE manufacturers would pure price. Then it would be what I want for what price like ordering dinner.
Red Lobster
Lobster Dinner=Cadillac STS
Calmari Appetizer=Scion tC
McDonalds
McDouble=Aveo

Not directing this towards anyone. Just pointed out some debate hot buttons
So you think Pure Price isnt worth it. Why just cause you dont see a Discount on a Scion. Please.... There is so much more to it.
You brought it up so I will say a few cents here.
MazdaSpeed 3 - Sure excellent car, great power, but at $25,000 that is a LOT more money. Even if you got $2000 off doesnt make it a better deal per se. Whats a deal anyways? Money off...Sure more car, but More money too. In the tune of roughly $125 in payment for most. So what deal is thatDoes reliability matter, does service matter, does ease of the purchase account for anything. Americans are so greedy and cheap now with no patience they want a steal even if its not a steal in the long run. NOW NOW NOW is all they think about. Not to mention the resale value of a Mazda is junk right now. Sure people that can afford the Speed3 will probably go an get one. Shoot I even looked at one when I sold my tC, but I went ahead and got a SRT-8 Charger cuz I could afford it.
To each their own. When you hit different price points payment comes into factor. Not to mention such things as no hassle, no haggle, easy buying experience when you shop outside of Scion.
Lets looks some more
Scion xB - Compare that to a Toyota Product - Corolla XRS or Matrix XRS. How much more does that cost compared to a xB.
Its all relative when you think about it. Do I agree that Scion should give a rebate, thats not for me to say. One thing they did do was cut the production of the cars WAY before any other car manufacturer did in this economy. Why did they do this you ask? To protect the consumers overall value of the car and not flood the market with too many cars that your value plummets even more than it already is. Go book a Chevy, Dodge or Ford and see how much money those consumers have lost. They are just now starting to really cut back production. Scion started last March.
This is a much heated debate by consumers, dealers alike... But Scion says they have no plans of doing a rebate, Special APR or Discounts. Do I have all the answers, I dont. Who does who knows. I do know there is still a lot of value in a Scion and they make a great car.
SilverstreaktC - Pure Price Means by defintion----Pure Price means that the price you see posted– in an ad, on the dealer's website, or on a menu display board in the dealership – is the price you will pay. This includes vehicles, accessories, and even finance and insurance products. All our prices are clearly posted.---
The dealers can set the price whereever they want to. Scions Stance is MSRP and frown if a dealer discounts it

I still think that to get the Tc, to where some of these other cars are after rebate is a ripoff. If we use 200hp as a benchmark, the Tc is blown away if you can get $2-$3k off of sticker for the Si, GTI, Speed 3, Genesis Coupe turbo, Cobalt SS turbo, Altima coupe, Srt-4, ect.
Love the Tc, dont get me wrong, and it was a great buy when these "fan-boy" cars actually sold for sticker. But now, when everyone else is slashing the price, pure price is a scam.
As far as the price going down, I searched and people have not had success getting the price down.

When you say Sticker.... Dont you realize most of those cars have that much built into the vehicle from invoice to MSRP... How much do you think is in a Scion the same?? Not even close. Your entitled to your opinion dont get me wrong. I know a dealer trying to sell 08's right now for $1000 off. Thats the most I have ever seen, but it also a model year old. We have had 2009 tC's since last May.

The main reason that Scion went with the "pure pricing" deal...is this.. 1. no need to haggle pricing. and 2. (this is the big one)... Scion does NOT have the markup in them that Honda and other car manufacturers do. The amount of profit Toyota sees from the sell of a scion (regardless of model) is actually very close to the cost they had in building it.
I can see both sides of the story on this thread...and if those on here saying that the Honda is better... then what are you doing on a Scion/Toyota site? lol.
I can see the arguement for doing away with fixed pricing with the down turn in our economy...but the reason Scion/Toyota cant is that they are already pricing their vehicles not very far above their actual cost.
Just my 2 cents.
^^ yep... I've got the inside track with my local Toyota/Scion dealer here...and they said that markup on the tC is only about 1200 from what they buy the cars from Toyota for. So not much room for profit when you add in all of their internal costs in selling a vehicle. I havent seen any other car brands a new quality vehicle that close to their own costs.
^^ Dude! I just saw you are with Larry Millar Toyota/Scion... I lived in Phx for several years and just recently moved... I know right where you're located. I had my 4x4 Tacoma serviced there a lot.
