Default 06 xB with 05 radio? Aux jack help.

Hey. I just bought an 06 xb a few days ago. And I absolutely love it! One problem.

It has an aux jack but I couldn't figure out how to get it to play my ipod. After some extensive searching it appears my 06 xb has an 05 radio in it. *shrug* I kept seeing posts that mentioned pressing the aux button but mine doesn't have one. So I was looking up manuals and found out that I indeed have the 05 radio with all the buttons.

So does this mean I can't play my ipod through the stereo? I saw a lot of posts about the ipod jack which mine doesn't have. I've been trying different things but no dice. I don't know anything about taking the radio out or anything.
I took a few pictures if that helps.
Oh. I have a monster ipod tuner cable thing. ugh. It sounds worse in this car than it did in my old car. I'd really hate to have to resort to using that.

Any advice? I really appreciate anyone even reading this.

ok, sorry to respond so late...
you have 2 options here...
option1 - sell or trade your 05 head unit and get an 06 model which will work with your aux plug.
or
option2 - in my opinion a better option for iPod...
get an ipod2car or similar interface adapter that plugs into the harness in back of the headunit (harness connection is the same for all scion head units i believe) which will enable you to Charge the iPod while connected (the Aux jack will not charge the ipod) and it will also allow you to use both the headunit controls and clickwheel on the ipod to change songs, etc..

I have the ipod2car interface and i like it. full digital signal to head unit, no static or signal loss like you experience with the fm modulators.. sounds just like you are listening to an mp3 cd, no messing with head unit volume and clickwheel volume to get a good sound, the only think the interface wont do is show the track titles on the head unit..
installs in 5 min..

Thank you. The ipod2car sounds good. Where can I get that? Is it something that I can have my brother in law install? (he used to do stuff like that for a living)
Is there anywhere online that I can read up on it? I'll do some googling. Sorry to have so many questions. I really appreciate the help.

i got mine off ebay, bout the same price as the fm modulators. also best buy has them, but they are about 20-30$ more then on line(ebay).
You should pay between 85-100$ not much more..
i think there is an additional harness you also need for about 5-6 bucks, but when i looked on line for mine all the ebay sellers were offering to include the additional harness for free, or for 5$ depending on the seller.
Install is VERY easy... everything is plug and play.. if you can turn a screw, you can install this, all that is involved is removing the radio surround -first remove all 3 ***** for the A/c controlls, they pull straight off, then remove 2 phillips screws hidden behind them, then to remove the surround start at the bottom, and pull hard on both sides, near the ash tray untill the bottom pops out, then gently pull it out and upwards all the way to the vents (it will be tight and slow going at first, but pull hard and the clips in back will release. i use a thin rubber pad to gain some hand traction, like what you would use to open jars, if you are old enough to remember what those are. there are a few harnesses clipped into the back of the surround, they all fit in 1 location 1 way so you can't mix then up. Then 4 phillips screws holding in the head unit.. pull the head unit straight out, plug in the harness and the interface, route the ipod cable (supplied with the kit) and put everything back together.... easy peazy... if you are not confident, or if your bro in law wants to see pics of how to remove the head unit, there is a write up somewhere on here on how to do that with Pics.. check the tech articles first, and if it's not there, do a search up at the top of the forum page, and do a search for stereo removal diy, or head unit diy.. it should come up..
Also, i believe there is an article with pics on how to install the ipod2car interface on here somewhere, but i don't remember if its for an xb or xa.. all the settings are the same, only the radio surround is different between the 2 models. once you muster the guts to pull the surround off, all will be revealed to be very simple..

here is a link to the crutchfield description of the ipod2 car..
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_541PXDP...er.html?tp=120

the good thing is that if you crash the box, or you get another car or whatever, you can remove the intercface, get a new harness connector at best buy or at the dealership, and install the interface in the new car it's as easy to remove as it is to install, no permanent changes are made to the vehicle, no wires to splice, etc..

in my opinion you will probly get the best price via e-bay or possibly amazon.com..

i dont check back on posts too often, but if you need any more help, or anything, just send me a PM (private message) through Scionlife i'm on here a few times each day so i'll see the pm and respond failry quickly.

Thank you so much! That sounds like something I could actually do on my own. I know what jar things you are talking about, makes a lot of sense. My only issue with by brother in law is that he ninja rigs things. If he even attempts to rig up anything on my car I will go ape ____.
I don't know how soon I'll be able to get it though. I'm a 40 hour a week cosmetology student so I'm reliant on my husband for cash.

If I have any more questions I'll definitely let you know. Thanks a million!
