I was gonna get rid of the Eagle LS 185/60-15 tires and do a minor upgrade to some Michelin 195/60-15's (Michelins' "Destiny" or "Harmony" series.)

Questions are....
1.Will the "195" size be ok on the stock rims or even the Scion stock 15-inch alloys ?

2. Do you think they will rub any against the inside of the car during turns or parking?

3.Will it change the calibration of my speedometer? Because, I am "just" increasing the "width" and not the "height"?...right?

The reason I am doing the minor upgrade is to get a little better of a tire under me and to "fill" out the wheel some more. That "185" does not fill out the lip of the wheel very well on the stock steelies. I have a connection to get the factory Scion alloy 15's at a very good cost and was wondering about those questions above on those as well.

I need to stay with my "15" size for a variety of reasons and any help on this is greatly appreciated!!

i have 15x7 35mm ofset rims w/ 195/50 tire and i have no rubbing. so, i fugure if you can't mounthtem on the stock rim than i do not see why it shouldn't work. good luck and keep us posted.

The 195-60-15 will be about 11/2" taller than stock, I have them on my wife's car, The stock tire is 23.7" tall, The 195s should fit ok on your steel wheel, It is 6" wide. After checking the 60s on her car, I have decided to go with a 225-50-15, They are only 24" tall, so there should be no change to the odometer, I am going to put them on the factory alloys. The 195,s shouldnot put your odometer to far off. They should not rub at stock height. Hope this helps.

Ok, I am a dumba.. on this stuff, but according to some of the tire sites, the difference between a 195/60 and a 185/60 is that the 195 is 10mm wider.. So why would it be an inch and a half taller on our steelies and factory alloys if all I am doing is increasing the width?....

the 60 is the aspect ratio not a fixed height/size... the aspect ratio is the % of the treadwidth to determine sidewall height...

example:
60% of 185 = 111mm
60% of 195 = 117mm
difference of 6 mm for one sidewall... or about 12 mm (.5 in) taller for overall diameter of the tire...

Well at least snuppy and I provided basically the same information in two different ways so it wasn't a total loss.
At the same time I have demonstrated a hazard of posting from work. It must have taken me about 30 minutes to finish my post from when I clicked reply. :roll:

Ok guys, I got it now. Thanks for the info and from the looks of it, I really cannot go to a wider size on our stock steelies or factory 15-inch alloy without throwing off the speedometer calibration or upgrading to a 16 inch which I do not want to do.

Unless you guys can come up with a size that will work without any change in the speedo calibration that will work on either the stock steelie or factory scion 15-inch alloy?

But again , thanks,,,,guess I'll just stick to putting the same size Michelin Harmony on there since they do produce a little better ride than the Eagle LS. Just dont have the cash right now to mess with bigger wheels or suspension mods.

215-50-15 or 225-50-15 as per my post, you will gain 1 to 2" in width and they will work on your wheel, I have been doing this for 40 years!!!

Ok, I checked that tire calculator and everything seems right about where I need it...

Since I am going to get the Scion 15 inch alloy,,,,,

with the 215/50-15,,,

Will that tire work ok and not "rub" the insides?? And it looks as though the speedometer will be reading just a little faster than I am actually going (which I can live with better than it reading slower than I am actually going)...did I read that right??

Recommended trouble free/rub free 15 inch fitments for the 2005 xB are as follows:

Tire Size / Overall Diameter

185/60-15 / 23.7"
195/55-15 / 23.4"
205/55-15 / 23.9"
215/50-15 / 23.5"

195/60-15's at 24.0 inches are a bit tall and may cause some rubbing issues. All of the recommended fitments listed above will fit on the O.E 15 X 6 inch wheels and will not have any negative affects on your speedometer or odometer.
