View Full Version : I did a bad thing.
coregmrconman 08-13-2009, 11:39 PM I am driving along and notice a "Hooters Car Wash" and i start thinking with the wrong head. Long story short, they dried my car off with a beach towel. my car is 2 tone. top is black.
Now my car has about a million fine scratches 2 inches long on the hood (i stopped them). You can only see them in fluorescent lighting or directly in the sun. can't feel them with a finger nail.
I tried scratch-x and it did not work. And i am taking it to a body shop on wednesday for them to "see what they can do". my question is, can this be fixed? wet-sand, buff, polish?
If it can't be fixed and needs repainted, will my insurance cover it if i have full coverage?
After i get this fixed, the car will never be touched by another person.
Gumby29 08-13-2009, 11:46 PM karma, lol.. sorry i dont mean to laugh at you... :D
thats why i never take mine to any carwash or have anyone wash my car but my detailers at work. only because they know what theyre doing and they work luxury cars all day long...
the body shop should be able to tell you if it can be fixed with a buff or if it will need to be repainted... sorry mang...
RedneckwithanxB 08-14-2009, 12:01 AM A highspeed should be able to get them out no prob
happyhick025 08-14-2009, 12:32 AM yea man that sucks...ive been there before. for me scratch-x hides them pretty well, but as soon as the car gets wet or i wash it the scratches come right back out. damn girls in bikinis :(
B-Man92 08-14-2009, 12:46 AM damn girls in bikinis :(

trust me, my car is always the first one that is washed at any hooters function... thank god for flat paint!
Trogz 08-14-2009, 03:40 AM When was picking my car up from the shop after getting my bumper replaced, an old lady drove it to a carwash, then scraped the curb pulling into the parking lot before handing me the keys. I couldn't forgive her, because she was not a hooters girl in a bikini... :icon_frown:
burstaneurysm 08-14-2009, 05:14 AM Yea, those always seem appealing, but you know they have no idea how to wash a car.
coregmrconman 08-14-2009, 05:51 AM so is the rule of thumb, if you cant feel the scratches with your nail, they can be buffed out?
RedneckwithanxB 08-14-2009, 06:17 AM just about 85% of the time... that means they are in one layer of the clear, and when you put the highspeed buffer in it it barely takes away any clear, but does get it hot so it mends it, kinda like melting cheese...
but be careful
daneisthegreatest 08-14-2009, 08:31 AM you should be good...and after i got an estimate from the body shop, i would take it to the hooters and talk to the GM about it...if you sit there and dont take no for an answer they will pay for it.
i know this because my best friends wife is a hooters girl and they had to pay to fix a car that a girl was washing with a diamond ring on (those scratches were a little worse than yours) :-)
coregmrconman 08-14-2009, 08:56 AM yeah, i understand its "their fault". but im not that type of dude. if it was malicous or laziness i would be upset. but the vaaaaast majority of people do not know those things. ive been told 50 bux to buff. thats not worth fighting over.
daneisthegreatest 08-14-2009, 02:59 PM yeah, 50 isnt bad. just thought i would throw that option out there in case it was a lot more.
