I was thing about how ugly wood looks in a car... i love mettle like alumenum tirim and what not but to his there own right?? well i was thinking every one is all like of ya i got the best wood in my car... why han't or have they put rock in there car yet??? any one know any thing or am i just going crazy with my custimizing thoughts??? i think a nice dark grant would look nice in some cars marbol is cool waht u think of that??? :lalala: :lalala:

If so that may be a valid point but weight comes into play. For the "Wood trim" anything under 40K generally uses a laminate, which is nothing more than a plastic sticker that looks like wood. Even on luxury cars real wood is much lighter than any kind of stone would be. The only vehicles I have seen marble used in was an RV built on a Volvo Tractor/Trailer that used marble counter tops and real wood floors!

Granite would look cool, you could get it cut to almost any shape with a water jet and get it polished and radiused. I thinkg its too thin though will be fragile. just to polish a thin piece like would break by looking at it. My brother in law used to work doing granite countertops. Pieces and inch thick sometimes break like nothing. You could do it in smaller sections it should work. Some awsome colors to choose from.

There is some man made stuff that is kinda like plastic mixed with rock called Corian I think by Dupont. Its alot lighter and stronger and you could cut thinner. Just dont put a hot pan directly on it like you would granite. Being man made color options are about endless.

Cool Idea though.

I thinkit would look a little out of place, at least at first. Maybe it would look good after a while, but you'd have to up the rest of the interior too. leather everything. Plus, have you picked up a pieve of marble lately? It's not a very light thing. hope you don't care about the 0-60. ...or the gas mileage. ...or the amount of stuff you can carry in your car. ...or the weight distribution (assuming most of the rock goes in the front, where the engine is, and passengers spend most of their time) but hey, you'd have great traction going sowly in the rain.

been done. made 'stone' kits a while back - last time in late '97?, 98ish? Haven't really seen it much anywhere else since then, never really caught on I suppose. Really, I'd forgotten about it until this thread reminded me.

All we did was use Corian-type material. Basically, it's just plastic that looks just like whatever stone it was you were trying to duplicate. Except it was more durable (natural stone is actually a crappy choice of material in most homes).

We (I) basically just got the stuff in blank sheets and then I milled whatever part or overlay I needed from it, polished it and then applied it in whatever manner I was making it for.

I liked the idea, but it just never took off. I'm sure in the intevening 7 or 8 years since I did it last, there are A LOT more faux-stone choices, and they are relatively easy to machine with 'cheap' wood working tools.

ive never seen kits like that before. i have NO idea where it could be placed though. maybe i would like to see nice marbel or nice dark woods for a speaker system. that would look sweet IMO.

a nice dark poplar wood box with an AMP painted a nice metallic color or something like that would look awesome
