Default Some advice about spring compressors

Just did my Tc with the S-Techs yesterday so I thought I'd save someone else the pain I went through

So, if you're renting spring compressors and they hand over the type that has a hook on one end - a long threaded bolt - and a fork that just flops around on the other end, go somewhere else!

The "fork" is meant to slide around the piston of the strut but since so little piston is visible, as soon as you tighten it down to compress the spring you'll run into the shock body damn quick. Essentially, theyre worthless.

Look for either the scissors type compressors that hug the whole coil, or a compressor that has hooks on BOTH ends to avoid interference with the shock body. If you use the hook type, rent 2 of them and use one on each side.

This will save you alot of frustration.

LOL. I know exactly what you mean. I tried to use the hook one and well, it was a pain in the ___ because it kept on getting in the way of everything.

I used the hook in the past they only come as a pair... its dangerous as hell to just use one on one spring strut comb that would make the thing bend one way way to much could shoot off.

The types I had gotten was U-Bolts, a bit safer, but had to readjust one side some times and allso got a little marking on the springs coating even though I tried to tape them off. Though they where alot safter looking than useing a hook type. They where under 40 bucks so I just bought them cause you never know when you will do springs again.

I did a search on e-bay and was wondering which type you guys recommend, I will be installing tien ss coilovers if that makes any difference. Here are some choices I have found on e-bay:

i had the first ones. worked fine. compressors dont necessarily have to be intricate, just functional.
