I have never done any of my own car work before, but when my Injen intake came today and I took a look at the directions for the install it didn't seem that complicated at all. I was wondering if the install would be a good "first" project? Is there anything(s) that I need to know before embarking on this project or is it cheap enough to have it stalled that I should go that route? Thanks.

shouldn't be any harder than changing spark plugs or sumthin like that. I have the AEM one, and it was a little harder cuz its bigger and there is more piping involved. I took my time so i didn't mess anything up and it only took about 45 mins. :wink:

I have the injen short ram and it didn't take long at all. The hardest part is probably just removing the battery. The instructions are very straight forward. It took me about 30 minutes to do. Most of the time was just reading and making sure I was doing it step by step. Other than that, it's not worth paying somebody to do it.

make sure it came with a rubber tube thats over a foot long...my kit showed up minus the tube...

Did it!!! Put it in this mourning. Very easy, but like others said, it is best to take your time and do it right. A few things that others with limited experience like myself may want to keep in mind when installing the Injen intake:

The directions simply say to remove the old air intake box and air intake duct leading to the throttle body, but give no guidance as how to do this. It took my about five or ten minutes to be comfortable that I was taking the correct thing out. What is a little confusing to the beginner is that the new intake goes in a different place.

Despite what the directions say, you will most likely have to remove the battery rather then just slide it back to easily mount the Injen intake.

The VM they are talking about is not an included part with the Injen kit and needs to be removed from the bottom of the old intake box. In fact there are three of them and are what the old bolts to the old box go through to mount it. Pop one out and use it to mount the new intake to the battery plate. Also confusing is that my xB does not allow for the VM to be bolted on from underneath as in the picture in the instructions. It had to be bolted on from the top while securing the Injen intake.

Anyway, this all took about 45 minutes and was very simple. I would recommend it as a project for the first timer such as myself.
