engine mod, good or bad?????
I came across a part thats supposed to increase horse power and torque (7-20HP). Its a resistor that you put on the IAT sensor that tricks the engine into thinking that the air coming in is 59F. the site says that is perfectly safe and legal. are they right or is this just a placebo product.
thanks

Do a search. That is the lastthing you want to put on your car. It may work, if you hook it to the right wire, but you will loose fuel economy, and the warranty on your engine and ecu. But if you think a 10 cent part you can buy at Radio Shack is worth all of that, go for it.
here's a little blurb about those things. it was one of the first things that came up w/ a google search.
"Adding the resistor makes the computer think the air coming into the engine is colder than it really is. The ECM will advance the timing to compensate for the cold, dense air since fuel does not atomize as easily in colder air. If this is done when the air is hot, it will cause a lean condition, which can lead to detonation knock (pinging). At the very least the engine will run leaner and hotter. This can cause damage to the engine."

thanks a lot for the info. I never heard of that resistor before so it cought my attention. Luckily, I have good people I can count on when I have a question. I know things about the mechanics but very little in the electronics aspect of the engine. again, thanks a lot.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
If there was a magic resistor you could put into your car for
more power, don't you think the highly skilled Dr. of Engineering
at Toyota would have figure it out by now?

Yeah, I did some research on the thing and it turns out, like chemical ***** said, that it makes the engine run richer and also to add to that it throws off the timing. While I was doing that I also researched the tornado thing for the intake... more garbage.
thanks a lot for the info
