Default Bypass Valve!!??

Okay, I have done my research and come to the conclusion that nobody knows whether you should have it or not!! and furthermore i havent seen anyone with one on the Injen intake. i am not sure what size to use but i have heard 3"(need to know!!!). Does it fit nice...does it interfere with the airflow....Is it really that necessary.....Has anyone hydrolocked the TC yet??? I have heard that the position of our CAI is about headlight level and unless in a lake or canal i dont see it getting submerged. I have an Injen and want to know if anyone has it and if any pics of how it looks..wanna make sure it fits good....i understand that AEM says not to use their bypass with injen or others but that just may be marketing reasons!?! I have also read that there are a few problems with the bypass valve which i need verified!!

1) when punching throttle hard the pull of the air is hard enough to cause the valve to close and pull air from engine bay? (Important)

2) the flaps on the valve over sometime(not specified) might come loose and get sucked into the engine...someone said it happened

3) power loss....however probably minimal

4) Another big problem ...someone said that they have a problem with getting some water in engine EVEN while having the valve

I know i am opening a can of worms but i rather get this all on one thread so people dont have to search and still not get the answers they are looking for!!!!!!

Thanks
~Jason

Do you have an intake yet? When u get one measure the pipe. Order the Bypass valve, and put it on.... See how it looks and feels. Its like 40 bucks ..... I dont think anyone has tried it. TRD is supposedly coming out with an intake soon. From what i heard it has a bypass. Just hold off another week or two. In my old civic i had an intake in it for almost 2 years. Nothing ever happened. My brother has an integra with a cold air and nothing has ever happened. Iam not saying its not possible, but chances are nothing will.

I do have the INJEN CAI but it is in short ram mode and i wanted to switch it but figured i might want to get the bypass valve before i do...Just wanted to get more input ya know!

Well to answer your questions:
1. Yes, I've heard of the issue.
2. I've never heard of the valve flaps being sucked in, but it's one more reason not to get it.
3. Yes you will loose power
4. I'm sure it could happen.

IMO just convert your Injen to it's CAI mode, and don't worry so much about hydrolock. I had a CAI on my previous car for over a year and a half and I've been through all these crazy Florida storms and I've never hydrolocked. Just try to avoid deep puddles and if you can't take it slow.

Here's an old post I don't know if it will help: Click Here

a bypass valve is like insurance. You my never use it but it's nice to know it's there. I had a friend with a k&n typhoon intake on a SRT-4 and he hydrolocked his but you're talking about a car with boost and an idiot for a driver. If you really want one though you can add a bypass valve to any intake.

I live in Florida.. I know 6 people that have hydrolocked thier motors down here. I purposely got the AEM because of the bypass valve and would highly recommend getting one. Especially in high rain areas.... Yes there is a small amount of power loss... but come on, a CAI doesn't really give you all that much power to begin with.

I hydro locked a Avenger V6 years ago. It is smart to have and instead of a 6hp gain you may get 5. Years ago some of the first AEM bypass valves got re-called due a part that came off into the intakes but that was gen 1 first time on the market.

im also thinking about getting the aem bypass valve but im not sure if it is worth it from what i am hearing. i want to get it because where i live, i have to go through hills and water comes rushing down when its raining when im driving home. maybe if i purchase it, ill jus remove the valve when its not rainging and put that one thing injen gave to hold the extension pipe together (kinda like a rubberband) with the other pipe and ill always carry the bypass valve in my car incase it rains that day then put it on when its raining. is that a good idea? hMmMmm...
