Ok so I'll set myself up here for some laughs. About a week ago I was installing some springs when I dropped a 12mm wrench that I was trying to undo the strut bolts with. That rear one is a _____. Anyways, it simply disappeared. I looked everywhere for it. But it simple seemed to have vanished into the depth of my engine compartment. Anyways, its been about a week and I'm hoping it has long since been left on the road someplace, but I am hoping that it does not find its way into some trouble in the future! Any ideas as to where I might try checking to see if it is still hiding from me? I'm willing to take some abuse here if anyone has some little crevice to recommend looking in. :oops:

I'm little confused, did you say you were working on your rear? or engine? if engine, try checking behind the bumper, I dropped my socket when I was working around my bumper and it got stuck between the steel reinforcement & plastic cover. if you dropped it right in the middle of the engine, try removing cover underneath the engine. I could suggest if you tap the area and if you hear any jingle or clank, you might find where its sitting.

lol, I know where you mean. I would get the magic wand. One of those wands with a magnet at one end and just fish around. If it's there, you'll hook it with one of those.

I've done this once or twice. Usually i hear it drop on the road somewhere.

I was working near the engine. The rear I was referring to was the rear or back nut that secures the front strut assembly in the engine compartment. It is blocked by the wiper assembly and is a _____ to get out.

Try dropping one of the sockets behind the wiper assembly while trying to get to that rear nut...I was freaking out so badly.

Also check the front cross member or what ever that thing is under the engine

my Echo's engine bay has so far swallowed a 10mm socket, at least two screws, the bolt that holds on the airbox intake horn, and a couple of rags...the larger metal pieces tend to find their way to the plastic underlip or wedge between it and the radiator... smaller pieces, however, are headed straight for the land of wind and ghosts

among other embarrassing things...just to make you feel better, when my friend and I performed the SR20DET swap on his Nissan 240SX I accidently left a fat socket wrench on the crank bolt when he went to fire it up for the first time (I had been using it to turn the motor over to set cam timing)... you should've heard it! car started up fine and then a second later WHAM! the wrench locked and pulled the crank pulley bolt straight out of the engine! and it kept going! somehow belt tension saved us and I was able to replace bolt with one from an R32 Skyline clip that was being used to block up a hose...
