Does anyone's SPEEDO rattle???
Mine doesn't but I've heard others complain about that. It seems as though the clear plastic on some cars is able to move enough to rattle. Take off the dash trim piece and wedge some paper pieces around the edges of the clear cover so that it's tight and can't possibly make noise. Then test drive it to make sure that's what you hear. If it is, I'd suggest either taping the paper you already used in place or buy some self-adhesive felt remove the cover and go around the edges.
hey pballplayer, i had the exact same thing in my xB... right around 3k rpm the speedo casing would rattle. it frustrated me a lot.
the culprit is the clear plastic that covers the speedo gauges. it rubs against the outer black housing near the top of the gauge.
i do remember seeing another place where the clear plastic comes into a little tab shape (near the bottom left of the entire housing, you can't see it if the black housing is on over it.) you'll see the little tab, it looks useless and just hovers above the speedo unit itself. i think that's another prime candidate for rattling.
take the whole thing apart and get some of that double-sided foam tape and keep adding it anywhere the plastic pieces aren't firmly connected until the rattles stop! i'm sure that every car is different so be patient, it will definately be a trial-and-error process for you. it took me three times to get the padding right, but now i'm rattle free! just don't take it into the dealership... you can definately do this yourself.
hope this helps. it made a huge difference for me!

There was a 'rattle' TSB ages ago on this that had the dealer remove the clear plastic and place little patches of stick-on felt to keep it from rattling - same as for the dashtop speaker grills and a few other potential rattle spots...
