Default Scion License Plate Frame...

Got the chrome ones. Installed them last summer.

After a few months the screws got so much surface rust, it looked like c/rap.

The other day, I noticed that the so-called "chrome" is flaking off.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep, take them to the dealership and it should be warranty. I've seen that before too and our dealership has taken care of it.

Ditto...your warranty will cover it as long as you got it at a toyota/scion dealer or sales.

I had the same problem...just took the darn thing off and threw it out. Bought a chrome plate frame at Autozone, with a double dragon pattern and a Chinese character on it. Looks cool, and, at ten bucks, costs half what the piece of crap Scion plate frame does!

I was able to clean the rust off mine and now it looks as good as new. (In case you haven't heart of this trick - I dipped a piece of foil into Coke and scrubbed it off.)

Contacted newscionparts.com and they said it is covered under warranty and I could bring it to any Toyota dealership and they would swap it out.

So, went into a local dealership, one of the c.rappiest ones ever which I will name after I'm done with this, and they gave me the hardest of times, saying it isn't a Toyota part, they don't have anymore (there was one on the rack right behind him), blah, blah, blah.

Call newscionparts.com and they were floored and are picking up the defected one and sending a new one.

I'll let you know the end result all around.

Those have been rusting out since Scion introduced them here in the NorthEast. Road salt kills them with the quickness. I didnt know that Scion would switch them out. Very interesting, course if the first one rusts out, why would one bother getting another to just have it rust out again?

All those scion license plate frame are cheap pieces of crap. Either they rust, flake, or get all faded out. They were never top quality.

There arent any high quality ones. Maybe the one, they sell At DMV, but other then that your better off plastic or custom ones made by a shop. Thats your best chance for quality.

I've never used frames due to the rattle while driving and closing the hatch. Do these have the same problem?

Wow you dug up an old thread!

The silver is the closest and I still have them on my car.

Just stay away from Bay Ridge Toyota (Brooklyn, NY), have not been back since and will never go back to them.
