Well, it's my first ever crash, but thankfully it's really insignificant. I was going through that treacherous tiny rotary near Fresh Pond in Cambridge, when a red Lancer ES (no, not Evo) clipped me on the rear left, sending me spinning to the left by 30 degrees. I immediately pulled to the center island to get out of the way, then checked the damage; I pretty much swapped paint with him, and there were no dents that were buckled in. From there, I pulled into the gas station in the rotary to further inspect the damage. The black plastic under-bumper baffle panel was dislodged from the impact; two plastic securing pins were gone (either popped out or sheared off), and a third was dislodged. Picture of the scars to follow.

I think I'll name my car "Odyssey", in honor of the Apollo 13 space capsule that blew an oxygen tank during a cryo stir. And perhaps this gives me an excuse to go get the TRD rear sway bar (unless it's taboo to add something unrelated during insurance maintenance; is it?).

I was always worried about T-boning someone from the right side when they come into the rotary from Fresh Pond Parkway, but not this. I'm happy that there wasn't any paint scratched off of the metal body, but still, I'll most likely be replacing the entire rear bumper. Sheesh, I could get the TYC tails while I'm at it. :P

Note the red paint on the tire; there was also some silver paint scraped off of my cheap hubcap. I'm glad I didn't have the 225/45/17 tires; that extra rubber most likely did some impact cushioning along with the bumper.

The body shop day is coming up: the 12th of February (an entire month after the incident). I might have to rent if it takes more than a day; is there a local place that rents xB's or something? It's either that or some jalopy from a local Avis or something. :P

Five weeks and $400 later:

Much better. Unfortunately I didn't get to drive through the fresh snow with my fancy snow tires, which already paid for themselves by absorbing the blow from the hit, and not getting the stock 17" rims dented, since they weren't on the car at the time. The upside is that the car was in the shop during the entire snowstorm, so there's NO SNOW OR ICE stuck on the car.

lucky the hit was so light, and only $400. sucks that the guy didnt have insurance. looks good as new now though. did the hit to your wheel/tire affect your alignment?

the alignment feels okay; I don't feel any vibrating at highway speeds or pulling to the side. I'm due for an oil change soon anyway, so I should probably fit in an alignment check sometime.
