need some help chosing new tires
Oh man. Please do not skimp like this on tires. They are such an important part of the car, it's not worth the safety risk. We have stock 17s, 215/45-17 and I know they aren't the cheapest tires to buy in that size, but go for a real quality tire. It's worth it to be safe. Toyo Proxes 4.
What are the Falken's like? I just got a quote on the ZE-512's for $425 otd including road hazard. Are they a good tire?
Also, most shops have been quoting me on Fuzion's HRI's. Between the two, which is the best choice? (Sorry if I'm thread jacking)

i just picked up some falkens. i think they are the ZE 512's. will double check in a little while.
I needed to tires to replace my front two bridgestones that were bald. so anyway i threw my rear bridgestones in the front and put the new falkens in the rear. to save some thread from the burn outs etc etc. might i say these falkens are pretty bad. My back end feels really loose, if you speed and like to get into the corners i would not reccommend these tires. the falkens in the rear definetly are not as tight in the corners like the bridgestone's. i was planning on ordering two more falkens to complete my set. Now i totally refuse to do so. I might just go out and order another four bridgestone's and call it a day.
the only way i can describe it is as such. Hard into a turn w/ some good speed its like once the weight of the vehicle has transfered from one side of the car to another, the car doesnt want to stick it feels like it wants to break loose in the rear. almost as if the car is now rolling on the walls of the tire. very scary.

Well.. in the next week or two I'm putting on a set of BFG g-Force Sport's to replace my worn stock tires and until I can afford to step up to 18" wheel/tire set. When I get the wheel's I'll be running Kumho Ecsta SPT's and go back to stock during the winter weather season.
I had the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport's on my Nissan 300ZX and they improved ride quality and handling immensely and would recommend them to anyone who wants an inexpensive, serious drivers tire. I drive hard, but like to remain in control and at the head of the pack.
I'm not comfortable with spending hundreds of dollars on tires when I'm also shelling out thousands on rims. The SPT's are highly rated and regarded amongst serious drivers, I'd say go with those. The Kumho is $84/ea.. the g-Force Sport's are $98/ea.
As for the two tires the original poster mentioned, the only advice I would give is, read reviews, a lot of reviews... you can't really test drive tires.. so just really do your research. Tirerack.com has a nice comparison tool.

You don't need a road hazard plan, its a waste of money.
You can get toyo proxes 4 for about $81 a tire I believe at www.edgeracing.com Bring them to a local shop and have them mount and balance them on your rims for you. After install, thats about $450 total. I'm a college student too with $700 to my name...I feel your pain! Although i'm graduating and starting work in sept, so it does get better!

i'm looking at getting new tires too. i'm looking at the nitto neogen's now. it comes out to like $450 mounted and balanced at discount tire. not sure if they're the best but they get really good reviews from everyone that has them... you can get them on ebay and then have your local shop mount them if there isn't a discount tire in your area...
