I have the Megan Racing Springs....I see they have the highest spring rate available on this list.

My girlfriend complains about getting headaches whenever I have her in the car. When she drives my car though I don't get headaches but I think that is due to the fact that I've always had cars with similar setups. Oh and that I'ma totally awesome dude.

3 questions!

1) The reason for this is most likely due to the spring rates and the obviously harsher ride?

2) I will prob switch springs,...the goldlines seem like they will give me a nicer ride but still be just stiff enough...am I right?

3) Why do some setups offer lower rates in front than back while others offer higher fronts than back? What is the reasoning for this?

1) You're g/f is very head sensitive. mine doesn't mind my xb with the megans. Megans are linear rate springs thus typically harsher riding. progressive rate springs will yield smoother ride since the spring rate increases as the spring becomes compressed.

2) Most reviews of the goldline are good. they make the ride smoother.

3) This i don't know the answer to. But i'm guessing to change the way the car rides. It is typical to have the front to be a higher spring rate to offset the weight bias of the front vs. rear.

Wait a minute...linear springs with a high spring rate and a nearly 2" drop? That would mean that the springs would have to be ~3" shorter than stock. I would figure that the springs would fall out if they are linear. More likely dual rate or progressive springs.

With regard to spring rates front and rear, you have to look at the limitations of the XB suspension design. In the rear, the XB has considerably less suspension travel than the front struts. When you lower, you typically lower the rear about the same as the front. Because the rear travel is already reduced as compared to the front, the lowering makes this travel difference worse. To keep the suspension from bottoming, typically the rear spring rate for the XB is higher due to the reduced travel.

If the spring rate is very high, you don't have to worry as much about travel as the high spring rate can prevent bottoming.

Jomo - They may be dual rate. There is not a dead coil in the rear. but the top coil are closely spaced that the middle and bottom spots.
