Manual Swap? Cruise control not working? Read me.
This is for anyone who has performed a manual swap, is now running the manual ECU, and their cruise control now does not function. If youre running an auto ECU, feel free to try this, but Im not 100% if itll work as I believe the codes for the solenoid malfunctions (due to the auto tranny no longer being there) will prevent the cruise from working. Also, the wiring info is for the 07-10 ecu - Ill try to find the pin for the 05-06 later.
Heres the jist of this - my cruise control never worked after the swap. After reading the ECU pinout diagram I kept thinking the clutch wire shown on this diagram was what the cruise went off of - it isnt. That clutch switch wire is ONLY for starting the car. Theres actually a second clutch switch wire going to the ECU which I found in the body wiring diagrams on AllData yesterday. This wire shows +12v when the clutch is engaged, and 0v when you disengage the clutch (press the pedal down). The ECU has a safety feature that cancels the cruise when the clutch is pressed in. So unless you bought a new body wiring harness and wired up both clutch switches, the ECU thinks the clutch is always pressed in on this secondary sensor, thus disabling the cruise.
The simple fix is to simply apply a 12v ignition to the wire going in to the ECU. This makes the ecu think the clutch is always engaged (pedal up), thus allowing the cruise to work. This wire does not control starting whatsoever, so no fear, the car will still start with whatever bypass or clutch switch you hooked up when installing the manual swap. Secondly, you could also just hook up a second clutch switch if you like, but its really not that big of a deal. All you need to recognize is that pushing in the clutch will not disable the cruise, so make sure to hit the brake or cancel, otherwise itll rev to the moon lol
Oh - and after all that - heres the wire you need to know. White wire on pin 21 of connector E5 on the ECU. Simply cut this wire and attach the side going to the ECU to a +12v ignition wire.
If you don’t know which plug or pin Im speaking of, heres the ECU diagram/pinout from Dezod's site…

Ill try to find the same info for the 05-06 shortly...

On the 05/06 ECU the pin/wire is E5-10. Still should be a white wire. Heres the ECU pinout for the 05/06 for reference...

Glad I could help. One of these days Im going to work on combining all of the auto-manual swap info and get it in one tech post that can be stickied or put in the tech section. Ive learned a ton all the way - first and foremost, the fact that it can be done for $1200-1500 - when the first people trying to discourage folks were saying it would be $4k+

Bump to a dead thread, does anyone know if the first gen tc ecu and the 2nd gen xb ecu are the same? Just trying to find out what ecu pinout diagram to look for so I can jump 2 wires and have cruise control again!!
