Default Sunroof noise...not really a rattle

This may be another post, but I couldn't find it. I have an '07 mostly stock tC. I just recently started getting a noise from my sunroof that is very aggravating. It sounds like the car is creaking and cracking when I turn, or go over a bump, kinda like you'd hear on a sailboat. Funny thing is, or rather depressing thing is, it only happens when the sunroof is in tilt mode. If the sunroof is closed, or when it is slid back it doesn't make any noise. But I like to tilt my sunroof. I suspect it has something to do with when I installed my sub, and the windows reset because I unplugged my battery, and I put the sunroof back and I think it may have gone farther than its supposed to before I figured out what was happening. It didn't make a noise RIGHT after that happened, but I'm trying to think of anything I may have done. Any ideas?

when you push the botton to open automatically, when it stops push it again. it need to go back another like an inch or two. see if that works.

Mine did the same thing, and the dealer said there's a bulletin on the sunroof. Take it to your dealer.

I had the exact same problem with mine, its a 2007 also and when I push the button the first time and it goes back halfway it will creak so I always push it all the way back. I am so sick of taking this car to the dealer I am just giving up and letting it be!

Its only when it is tilted, not opened. Like when it is fully close you hold it and it tilts up, then goes all the way back, up it only does it when it first tilts up. If open the sunroof it goes away, no matter how far its open

Be warned that your dealer is going to need your car about half a day to replace the sunroof.

does anyone know the TSB # for this one? I have the same problem, only my dealership couldn't hear it, surprise. I only notice it when the roof is in tilt mode as well.

I couldn't find one, but it requires that the entire sunroof cover cartridge be replaced, if I heard right.

Take it to the dealer. I had the exact same thing happen. Got mine back and no more creaking. I'm not sure if there was a recall on this issue for toyota, but I know that they have the solution. I know they put tape somewhere in there, you can actaully see where they put it but I can't give you the exact part that they put it on. Sorry if I'm late on this and you've already gotten things fixed.

Sorry for bringing this old thread back, but I was wondering if there are any updates on this? I have an 06 and have this issue also. I brought it in to the dealership a few months ago and they lubed the tracks, but that actually made it worse. Now, it's still there and I'm wondering what to and if there were any TSBs out there for this issue on the 06s. Thanks for any help in advance.

I'd try initializing the sunroof motor position first. It's pretty simple too.

Do that. If that doesn't fix it, take it to a different stealership.

I tried searching, but I can't find anything about how to do this. Could you tell me how to initialize the sunroof motor position?

1. Turn the ignition key to ON
2. Press the moonroof switch to the CLOSE side until the moonroof is fully closed
3. Keep the switch depressed for at least 2 seconds after the moonroof is fully closed, this is so the ECU can recognize the "closed" position
4. To acknowledge that the programming is complete, the moonroof should open itself up a little bit

Thanks for that link, drjohnson36. However, it did not solve the problem. If anyone else has any input, it'd be much appreciated.

My 07 makes a popping sound, to me it sounds like its coming from the back piece of glass on the roof and usually only happens when taking angled or curves turns, like going in a driveway or something

First time I did that, I didn't know I did it.
