Default Resetting ECU?

Does anyone know of a way to reset the ECU? I know some automatic cars have a procedure to do so and was wondering if it can be done to the tC?

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes. What are you trying to accomplish?

Take off the negative battery terminal, step on the brakes (drains the power quicker, brake lots use a lot of juice), reconnect battery, start the car and let it idle for about 10-15 min. I could be wrong about having to press the brakes but it worked for me lol eithr press the brake or just leave the battery disconnected for about 15-20min.

You're retarded and should be banned for a few days for telling someone to do that.

Go find something productive to do.

OP: Disconnect the -neg battery terminal for 10-15min then reconnect and let the car idle with AC, radio and headlights off for 15min.

Shame on you Led-Maniac!!

anyways, the best way to reset is to disconnect the negative battery terminal for atleast 15mins. Then when you reconnect, start the car make sure you let it idle for 15mins also.. meanwhile you can reset the windows and moonroof.

there is a fuse you can unplug for a few minutes, resets ECU without losing all your radio presets and what not.... and not having to reset your windows!! google up the diagram i forgot it lol

The point of pressing the brakes is to use any reserve power for lighting the brake lights, it really doesn't use a lot of power. (Trying to start the car would use far more) Either way, you would still want to wait about 10-15 after doing so to allow the ecu's power to properly drain.

I know that some cars when you install a new part, a reset of the ECU is required to get the "full effect" of any changes/mods made to the engine/intake. I was wondering if this was also true for the tC? I know that battery terminals can be disconnected for about 15 minutes or so, but that also removes all electronic settings- windows, radio presets, radio welcome message, etc.

I'm sorry I meant both cables of the battery, thus having no power hooked up to the system....[take off both negative and positive] So once the battery is full disconnected, you can remove it from the car, if you touch both cables it will quickly drain all voltage and reset the ecu [some is still retained by capacitors throughout the system]. We [ASE techs] do this at my shop all the time to rule out any erroneous SRS or check engine lights. I didn't mean to confuse anyone...I should have mentioned both terminals, i.e. disconnect the battery. There is NO harm =]

What "mod" are you doing? I can tell you the tC will learn dang near whatever your are doing without resetting the ecu.
