Toyota calls it a concept, but this Supra is ready to race.
LL Cool J once said “Don’t call it a comeback,” but that’s exactly what this is: a triumphant comeback for Toyota and the legendary Supra nameplate. Toyota used the Geneva Motor Show to show off its new GR Supra Racing Concept. While it may not be the production-ready street car we’ve been yearning for, this race car gives a lot of clues to work with.
First off, Toyota confirmed that this racing concept is front-engined, and rear-wheel drive, which is a good start. Additionally, the brand has confirmed that this race car uses OEM suspension components. Presumably, they mean the same units that will be found on an upcoming Supra street car. Similarly, the sound is decidedly inline-six in tone. This perhaps confirms rumors that the new sports car will be co-developed with BMW, a brand with a rich history in inline-six cylinder engines.
More news as we get it, but things are looking up for Toyota sports cars. The brand is finally showing a pulse again. Hallelujah.
