Default Cobalt SS/TC...

Anyone else hear about this? Apparently the Cobalt SS is getting turbocharged and a new engine, some LNF model.

here's a thread to it.

http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?t=92512

Performance

2.0L I-4 Engine
260 hp @ 5300 rpm
260 lb.-ft. @ 2000 rpm

Now, I love my tC. I love tC's so much that this is my 2nd tC... but... eh.. this is giving me some 2nd thoughts.

I know it's a chevy, and it's a cobalt... but...jebus.

Yeah, there was a blurb in Sport Compact Car about this, but no hard specs. It looks to be an entertaining car.

I drove a supercharged cobalt when they first came out and I must say I was very impressed. Although, I still feel I would rather have my tC and eventually turbo it than have a supercharged or turbocharged cobalt. Personal Preference.

I totally Agree. I'd rather have a car that is in some way special to begin with, rather than an "economy" car with a powerful motor. The tC has features few cars have at any price, whereas there have been a few cars that had a similar purpose to the Cobalt SS, at a similar price point. (Like the Civic Si, Ion Red Line, SRT-4 Neon and Caliber, Sentra SE-R, Focus SVT, and on and on...)

I wasn't aware that a turbo tc wasn't an "economy" car with a powerful motor. I'm sure this car is underrated, the supercharged ss already had 260hp so I'm sure this one is closer to 300hp. IMO, I'll rather have a car that has 300hp and was designed to handle it than one that has 300 but was designed for 160.

The supercharged cobalts came with 205 hp, I test drove one and wasn't as impressed as I was with the tC...partly the driving, partly the looks and options...also partly the all powerful Toyota reliability!
The 2AZ is more than capable of handling WAY more power than stock reliably, as many of us have tested! The tC is more appealing to me and seems more "tunable". If I wanted a car that was turbo'd right off the lot, I would've bought an STI!

Well I was going off of what GM was marketing them with...advertised 205hp...didn't feel much faster than the tC so the 205 was believable!

the reason the tc feels fast is because of the short gears but if you put them on the track you'll see the difference.

^ they do it for insurance purposes, so its cheaper, and because of what happened to Ford in '99, most automakers underrate their cars. When ford built the '99 cobra they didn't assemble it with the parts, so when people dynoed the car it only put down like 240whp instead of 260whp, which is about 305hp at the crank. To make a long story short, they got some lawsuits,so they had to recall those cars and install a special performance packages to raise the hp.

i'd definitly pick one of those up if I hadn't already put $$$ into my tC. And hopefully the next gen tC's will give these eco sporty coupes some competition
