Ok, I didn't start talking crap. I've just been stating facts and sharing my opinion. I never said it was illegal or stupid to own a hybrid if that's your thing. My first comment was something along the lines of "all those cars look neat but would only sell well if non-hybrid". Until they out sell normal cars, that is a fact.

Apparently you didn't read what's right after "prodding" because I clearly stated that I fully encourage ANY person to buy whatever vehicle they like the most. I don't care if it's a segue or a Prius.

Lastly, I did pull that from an internet study done quite well actually. However, to your sleuth-like credit, it is a few years old so prices have obviously changed. Point being, if you cut the Corolla/Prius ratio in half, you're still looking at 6 years and who knows how many miles before you start seeing a savings.

Make a production hybrid with 300 hp and 50+ MPG and I'll buy it for less than 30 grand. I figured this would be one of the more intelligent debates but apparently it's nothing but finger pointing now.

well, i don't like to use the word "saving". we looked into the car and found that, with my wifes commute, we would spend a less a year in gas than owning a normal Civic for the same price. and the Prius has more usable space. that spending less on gas made up the difference in cost between the cars, Corolla included. performance was the same between all the cars. everything is 125ish hp. So we figured, why not try a Prius?

This thread is started to show the potential of the Prius, CRZ, Insight as the popularity gains. the problem is, no one company wants to try and make parts for these cars stateside which is a shame. pretty much the reason i bought 95% of my parts for my xB1 from Japan. I would do the same with any hybrid, would have to.

On to more car pics please!

understand I disliked the notion that people in Japan would "fix up" vans and wagons. now I own a part of that trend. I hated the bB when I first saw one in '99. Now i own one. never say never!

My parents just got the sport-wagon TDI Jetta. Not only does it look cool as hell with the smoked headlamps (light) and grey metallic paint but the wheels are the upgraded 5 spoke painted to match. That car is pretty damn quick! I played with it's power and did some highway while hauling my 55" LCD TV IN THE BOX from the store back to my house (40-50 miles) and still got 39 mpg. Amazing what diesel can do huh?

They have a whole dedicated circuit for the TDI overseas. You can get a Jetta TDI Cup Edition from the dealers now. They look pretty neat IMO.

FYI

tdi and ALL diesels under 7,000lbs curb weight are illegal for sale in California and soon to be a few others states.

also

Maintenance on Diesels like hybrids is more. in actuality if my memory serves correct EVEN more expensive than hybrids.

Yet waaaay more fun to drive and CA is terrible.

BTW, you're wrong

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars...diesel/4235586.

Maintenance is more but mechanics everywhere are familiar with it.

Yeah, the fact that they don't use urea injection is nice. I like the 236 ft/lb torque factor I can vouch for this thing tearing the tires off from a stop on demand hehe.

I know they've got more than that in them too! Just put a bigger intercooler, up the boost, hard pipe kit and get rid of the emissions exhaust! It won't be legal then but it won't matter in FL. lolz
