the "private party" hassle of selling my tC and arranging my own new financing holds me back. but i really am considering it.

At this time I wouldn't even consider anything with below 30mpg...gas prices will only get higher. But that's just me...

good point, i didn't consider the high price of gas. it'll probably add 100 bucks or so a month in fuel. i might have to eat more mac and cheese.

but test drive a 2.7 twin turbo and tell me you wouldn't figure a way to work it out.

lol, I see your point, but I'd still never buy it, no matter how fun to drive it is... Once gas gets to like $5 a gallon, like it already is in Europe, you'll regret your purchase with a passion. I'd rather hav a slow car with 60mpg then a fast one with 19...I'm praying they make the Yaris into a hybrid, it would get like 80mpg.

i like the avant (wagon) because it's a sleeper; a "grocery getter" when you want to get the groceries really fast....

yep, it would be a beast but i would probably leave it stock. it already has 46k on the turbos and the turbo lady is notorious for taking these out at around 75k.
