Default Thinking about two letters... F and J!

Hey folks,

I've been thinking about buying an FJ Cruiser. I haven't been lurking any FJ forums, so shatter my dreams if you want. I'm not sure if I want auto/manual, 2wd/4wd, limited slip, etc, etc, etc. I'm not even sure if I'll trade in the xA. I still want to keep little bugger. Anyone have any opinions on the FJ Cruiser? Are the TRD Special Editions even still available?

Thanks

TRD are still available.

Some news you might be interested in, the manual (6 speed), comes only in the full time awd version of the vehicle, and is the only tranny available on it.

Great trucks, with a great ride, and great power. People are compaling about the visibility out of it, but who cares, it's hot!

If u got spots where u can go off roading then I say get the 4x4 auto with limited slip. If its only gonna be a street truck then get the 6speed 2wd/awd or whatever it has. FJs r the koolest and I wish I had one. Very sweet ride.

fj's are really cool, but clearly not for everybody with the poor gas mileage, low visibility and loveit/leaveit styling. if you live in the city, the fj ain't for you.

and if you don't plan to actually go offroading and live in florida, you won't need 4wd with locking differentials if you plan to just keep it on the pavement.

Thanks for chiming in, folks.

I checked it out at the dealership. I was able to analyze it while dodging sharks...

First off, the interior really bothered me. First, when trying to get into the back seat, I was disappointed not to see a handle for getting into the rear. I ended up banging my shoulder into the upper door jam which really smarted. I felt a little claustrophobic in the back with the doors closed. The fact that the windows don't go down kinda bothered me, too. Leg room in the back wasn't bad, though. In the driver seat, it was comfortable, but the color-keyed interior really screamed "I'M CHEEZY!" The side-mirrors were too narrow, as well.

Driving the FJ was a different story. They didn't have a trail-rated course or anything, but I drove on the same route I did when I was looking to buy the xA. I enjoyed the ride. It wasn't soft as the soccer-mom SUVs. The clutch was a bit soft, but that can be fixed. I did notice a lag with the throttle-by-wire system, though.

I'm not sure if I'd buy one on a whim, but I'm glad I checked it out. Toyota (TMS) kinda sucks at setting up option packages. I'm going to check out FJ Cruiser Forums (fjcruiserforums.com) and see what people recommend...

i thought about it when they first came out, the rear cargo area screamed to me because of the amount of work I do for my dads company and the fact that the interior had a rubber floor was teh shiz... aside from that im used to drivingsuvs with horrible blindspots and bad gas mileage (i had an 88 s-10 blazer, not the most friendly SUV out there)

id buy one... but there is no way that i would give up the xB to do it...

and honestly, why do you care about the back seat, you would never sit back there...

i love how funky the fj is from the outside, but driving it on a daily basis would be a chore, i'd sooner just get a tacoma, almost identical mechanically, the fj just has a few neat off-road features.

I have friends.

I was looking at the X-Runner a while back. And after test-driving the FJ, I'm wondering if the X-Runner is still available...though I've heard people having problems with it.

well, the x-runner is made to be like a sport truck. the prerunner is kinda like the 2wd fj, the prerunner is a 2wd tacoma with an offroad stance. then they have the 4x4's which are like the fj, but i don't think they come with locking differentials, or a clutch start cancel, and so on. but a tacoma is just way way more useful and practical as a daily driver than the fj. the fj is just uber retro and geared more for off-roading.

I have had a 4x4 A/T since the month after they came out. We have been very happy with it. It has plenty of power and it tows my camper (3900lbs) like it's not even there. I have made quite a few 400-500 mile trips and the seats are reall great. I have a lead foot and I get 19-21 miles a gallon.
I got used to the blind spots after about 2 days. Once you learn where to look it's not that bad.
Off Road it kicks a**, but thats obvious-lol
It definately is'nt for everyone but kinda like the xB thats sort of the point.

Toyota sux when optioning a car. Alot of zip code segregation goin on. Can't get a yaris with side airbags but if I go to where my cousin lives in PA u can get em. That ticks me off cuz where he's at it's pretty open not like on LI.

I'd say the X-Runner is a better buy cuz u live in Florida and don't have to worry about snow or anything. My friend got me turned on to the new Rav4. I thought it was a soccer mom car but after a ride in that and ooo man. That 3.5 v6 pulls like a freight train. I love it, even though it doesn't come with a stick.

I would tell you to definately get one.

Go onto FJCruiserForums.com and find MudLovingFJ. That's my boyfriend. He has one and has modded it quite a bit. He will be able to talk you into one easily.

Oh, and if you plan on going offroading, don't get the TRD Special Edition......black shows "pin striping"!! Yellow shows it the least.
