The final product will make or break my desicion. Body styling alone, hands down, i'm in, but a 2.0 n/a?? Hmmm......i will be waiting to see the official specs on the powerplant. <200hp and i'm out, >200hp with an insane compression ratio then yet again, i'm out. Smarter thing to have done was use the 2.5 n/a currently in some of the subies.

I still can't figure out why they'd use the 2.0 over the 2.5.

It's cheaper to produce an engine that's no longer in production, over producing one that's being mass produced for almost every single Subaru model that hits the showroom floor? lol. There is a reason why so many car companies use the same motor for multiple platforms/models, it's cheaper than producing a ton of different motors. Subaru only makes 2 motors, the 2.5 and the 3.6, now they'll have to being production on a third motor.

incorrect. weight would be the reason.

I have a feeling the FT-86 is going to be an awesome looking car that may handle well, but really wont have enough power.

Gotta wait to see how they look in production, concepts always look cool, then they make em and change things sometimes.

I assume that the third motor would cost $ in development but down the road when they actually do produce the smaller engine, its cheaper because of the less material and resource used. This is my assumption nothing more. Neither of us know the real reason why they choose 2.0 over 2.5. It could be better gas consumption, handling aspects, weight to power ratio. They could have wanted an engine that would have the right weight to balance the tranny that will sit towards the rear. 60/40 or 50/50 ratio in weight. Also smaller engine equals to cheaper MSRP price of the vehicle.

Either way this car is going to be very nice and will have lots of potential. Mitsu 2.0 engine is already proven to make power. So displacement should not be an issue. I just hope this car comes out looking similar to the concept.

there is no cost for developing a "third" motor. subaru has been building them for a while now and they make plenty of power

I was assuming the new motor would be built in the US plants, considering the Toyota model will be USDM only (if they're still sticking to the Toyota - US, Subaru - Japan plan).

I dont think Subaru and Toyota have US factories. All there factories are overseas. Even the tC was built and assembled in Japan.

Toyota has a ton of plants here, and Subaru has the 'greenest' plant in America.

In 14 manufacturing locations across North America, team members are producing 11 vehicles including the Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, Sienna, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra, Venza and the Lexus RX 350.

Why people worry about HP nowadays. That car is beautiful IMO... being rear wheel drive will make it more fun to drive. Check out the s2k AP1 ... 2.0 liter. But my gawd man, one of the funnest car you can drive.

^jdm/euro ap2^ f20 w/ upgraded suspension = win. damn americans and their obsession over tq.

but i'm looking forward to the ft86. lightweight, rwd, and fairly reliable (i hope) is a combo that cars nowadays are lacking quite a bit. it'll be refreshing to see this in the market.

thats because tq is everything!! You need torque to open a jar of pickles, you need torque to move things, you need torque to get to point a to b, etc.

1. Drive something with a lot of torque
2. Report back when you say "OMFG"
3. ????
4. Profit
