AutoX Tires

AutoX Tires
So what tires are people considering for this season? I was planning on sticking with the RT615s like normal... but it looks like the prices went up (something like $20/tire!).
Then I saw these:
Kumho Ecsta XS. Apparently they're made with autox in mind and look to directly compete with the 615s. And they're only a few more $ per tire... something like $120 for a 225/45/17.

I'm running the Dunlop Direzza Z1 starspecs from last season.
Your other best bets are:
Bridgestone RE01-R
Bridgestone RE11 (if out in time)
The dunlops and the RE01R are considered the two best tires for street-tire autocrossers. The dunlops are said to do better in heavier vehicles, while the ligher guys (2100lb civics) prefer the RE01-R. The dunlops are far cheaper... I paid $160 per tire on a very expensive size, 225/40-18
I hear some favorable reviews of the Ecsta XS, but as far as I know, it wasn't run at Nationals... the RE01R and Z1* were, though. If they're a lot cheaper than the dunlops, then they're probably the best bang-for-buck option.
The RE-11 is Bridgestone's counter to the Z1*, which shows they at least feel a little threatened.... But, expect very, very pricey.

I'm not sure if the XS's were available for nationals... seems pretty new. So I don't know.
Other concern is budget. Ideally I'd go for some bridgestones, but I'd at least like to pretend I have a budget for these things.
We'll see though, depends on how things look closer to March or April.

After checking into it a little more, the Dunlops aren't as ridiculously priced as I had thought... at least when compared to the RE01Rs.
Discount Tire has the Dunlops at $138 each (225/45/17)... compared to $188 for RE01Rs. And that's just $18 over the Kumhos. Seems like a better choice, really.
And if like you're saying they're better on the heavier cars, seems like a fit for the pig of a tC.

I PROMISE you won't be disappointed. The grip on these dunlops is sheer lunacy.
I got the recommendation from two guys in my local autocross region, who compete at nationals in their R32 golf. They've burned through 2 sets already, travelling to different regions and such.
I've got 5k miles on them with 2 events, and they were about 10% worn on the front, and nearly untouched in the back. Reliability seems to be even better than expected for a 200 tread tire.
I would do it again in a heartbeat, ESPECIALLY at $140 per tire. I paid $160 and picked them up at the tirerack distributor here in shreveport.

Dexter... the 615s are a good every day tire as well... but their "wet" traction is a bit lacking and they should NEVER, EVER be used when temps approach freezing or you have snow/ice. They are strictly a summer tire and it would be dumb to even attempt any winter driving on them.
Of course, that goes for any of these tires we're talking about... they're all just "summer" tires.

After doing research, as far as street compound performance tires, the Toyo R1R's outperformed the Bridgestone RE01 and Dunlop star specs. This was a controlled test compiled by an scca member. The toyos are still consisdered new I guess cause I havent seen any at the races yet lol.
Also the Nitto-nt05 tires should be really good, but i havent seen any reviews yet.
